Here comes the worst sports week of the year. I guess I can use it to catch up on who is supposed to be good in college football this fall.

There are several that are worse...

The start of The NLDS, and the start of Round 3 of the Stanley Cup Playoffs...just to name a few...

I won't watch a minute of either one.  Good week to catch up on a bunch of recorded TV programs that have been preempted for the past three months by baseball.
Funny thing is, growing up I loved the all star game. Back then the players cared about it.  Now, pitchers opting out  - or their teams opting them out - by pitching them on Sunday so they can't pitch Tuesday, cheapens the game significantly. Players like Jeter and Desmond, opting out because they want the time off.   I don't blame any of them for it, but if they don't care enough about the game then I don't either.  I think it's time for the allstar game to go away.  Just give all the players the four days of..
Same for me. Maybe it was because there was less baseball on tv then also.

I don't think I've watched a HR Derby since Stuart v Robinson:

ESPN used to run those back in the 80's. Those were fun to watch.

But for those dates, baseball is in full swing and for the NLDS you are able to catch NFL and college football so I think these next four days are really the worst days of the sports calendar.

I enjoy Wimbledon. Of course it's on day time here. NBA summer league. Maybe a CFL game.

You would have been the only one to see it on the aforementioned (original) series.
Ok maybe it was Alllison vs. Aaron.  I l know I saw Sievers, Aaron, and Allison each at one or another matchup (and Killebrew too) I just can't remember the exact matchups.

I have no interest in the HR Derby, although with Berman no longer being part of it it might be more watchable.

Might catch some of the AS game since there are so many Nats, we'll see.

I'll watch both live in person next year. :)

I think I'm going to attend the HR derby but I'm definitely not going to the game itself.

I planned a trip to Europe around the All Star Break if that gives you an idea how if feel about it.  That Beijing said, I loved the ASG as a kid, so I'm torn as to whether to see it in person next year.

My FBB league gets together for the ASB every year. We're set to do it again tomorrow. Should be fun. Only time I really wear a jersey.

Pondering this:    Over the years, I've read/heard phrases that I don't recall ever reading/hearing before.    In the news recently has been the phrase "take a meeting".      Now, I've gone to meetings.    I've attended meetings.    Hell, I've even "called" meetings.     However, I never "took a meeting".   What is the origin of the phrase and have you ever used it?

Yeah once I scheduled a staff meeting for 2pm on a Tuesday, to be followed immediately by our weekly all-hands meeting at 3.  (All of the staff would be attending the all-hands.)  Then, there was an emergency and the  all-hands meeting for that week had to be re-scheduled for 2. So I had to take the staff meeting and reschedule it for 3.

I've heard and used it. As in my boss telling me "could you take that meeting I hate for me."  Not sure where it comes from. Sounds like what the English would say.

I'm watching the Can Am independent baseball league game on One World Sports. These off days must come to an end.

This was the 5h or 6th year that MLB chose not to have games on Thursday after the ASG, a bad decision in my book. But ESPN needs the extra day to talk about their ESPY's. Does anyone here actually watch that crap?

Not me...the ESPYs are so much sound and fury, signifying nothing.

In my younger days there was a full schedule on Thursday.  But that was so long ago, that honestly, I can't remember the last time they played on Thursday.  I have no problem with giving the players a full four days off in the middle of the season. And it isn't really even four days. Some teams (don't know how many) practice on Thursday.  Teams with away games Friday have to travel on Thursday.  Seriously I am as much a baseball addict as anyone here, but I really haven't had a problem filling the time these past few nights (and I didn't even watch any of the derby or game).

No. Nobody watches that crap.
