Wow, seems like a short rope on Ross.  I'm guessing they've identified something in his mechanics they want him to address in Syracuse.   With Turner pitching well in his first start at least they've got some options.

I'm fine with this.  Turner turned in a pretty good outing in Colorado.  He was hitting 97 too.  If he proves useful that would be great as he still has options and team control left

so is what they are going for here is if Turner falters you can slide AJ Cole into that spot?  I think AJ Cole could be a really good reliever because his stuff would play well but he doesnt have enough weapons to be a starter.

Didnt bother them last season.

Last season at the trade deadline the Yankees had the 8th best record in the AL, were 4th in their division, and were 5.5 games behind the wildcard. They had been outscored by 32 runs.

This season they have the 3rd best record in the AL, are 2nd in their division, and are the 1st wildcard team 2.5 games clear of 3rd place. They have outscored teams by 37 runs, which is 2nd best in baseball.

Now, if they fade by July I agree they might try to move assets. But the seasons aren't remotely similar right now and if the Yankees are legitimately in the playoff hunt there's no way they're moving assets.

NYY would jump at any opportunity to dump Ellsbury's contract, regardless of contention. But it'd be a tough sell if he's playing well (like he is now) unless they have another move in mind to fill the gap. But only him. They aren't dealing anyone with significant value when they are contending. They look great right now.

Right. It's a ridiculous idea to think that we could get NYY's good players right now.

No reason to get down on him yet. His strikeouts and walks were on par with normal so far this year (8.0 k/9 & 2.3 BB/9 in 2017 as opposed to 8.0 k/9 & 2.5 BB/9 career) the difference so far this year as he's been way more hittable, probably due to such a small sample size.  He's also given up 2.9 HR/9 this year (5 in 15.2 IP) compared to 0.8 HR/9 coming into this year.  That would have come back down to Earth soon.  That being said, giving him time to continue to hone a changeup in AAA will serve him well and expedite the process and hopefully get him to the next level.

Ross can't sustain success and get lefties out until he develops a 3rd pitch, the changeup.  This is a good move.  Turner looked pretty good in Coors.  His track record is lacking but he's still just like 25 and was once a high 1st round draft pick.  Maybe he's a late bloomer?  I'm okay with seeing what we have there.

Agree.  The Ross move can't be on performance alone...especially when one outing was in CO.

Gonna have to bite that bullet eventually if you want/need Cole to contribute. With yesterday's off day,  you can do that now, and everyone can stay on regular rest.

In Colorado he was in the high 80s but I saw 93-95 shown on the broadcast in his last start.  Isn't that his normal velo?  Maybe the cold weather in Colorado was the culprit?
