Oh, I bet they try and avoid a DH right before the ASB. You could make that game up in September or have a DH then, too, but if they do it now, I'd think Saturday is a better bet.

They may already be trying to squeeze one DH in later in August/September so things start to get complicated.

That's true. You've also got expanded rosters in September, which mitigates that some.

weather.com leans toward the negative as well: 60% chance of rain at first pitch declining over normal playing time to 30% at 22.00. Also predictions of 40-50% chance in the run-up to first pitch.

...and now, unusually for weather.com, they have increased the chance of rain to 80% at first pitch. Usually they back off from such predictions.

From 22.00 it's expected to be round 25% chance of precip on into the wee hours.

I played a triple header last year in co-ed softball.  It's not that bad.  What are these millionaires complaining about?

It’s a shame. I was really looking forward to killing time on the long Detroit to Munich flight listening to the game.

I'm playing at least four games in one day in a couple weeks, fully expecting to not be able to walk for a couple days after it's done.

A quad header is hard on the glutes.

It's hard on everything. Chance I could be playing a double or triple header the day before...and a slim chance we could play the day after, but that's unlikely.

I wonder whether baseball is still broadcast on shortwave.  I remember my grandfather listening to the Yankees at stupid o'clock on (I think) Armed Forces Radio SW in Bangkok.  That was shortly after South Vietnam fell and there were still loads of US military all over SE Asia and no interwebz.
It’s a shame. I was really looking forward to killing time on the long Detroit to Munich flight listening to the game.

Hard to manage a double header when there's a 4:00 game already scheduled,
Typically, if there is a 4pm game, and they really want a doubleheader, it's a traditional doubleheader with the 4pm ticket holders getting both games. Second game might start a bit late but they don't complain because they are getting a free game. Depends on how much management wants to get the game in, because they lose a gate, but on the other hand it's good for fan morale.  I've twice been the recipient of a free game in this manner.
Of course then the complication becomes what happens to the tickets for the rained out game, since there is no makeup.  In the past, they have offered to simply refund in full.  I don't know .if they would still do that

I'm down.  Was planning on going to Saturday's game anyways.

Let's hear it for insomnia.    Sleep is over rated anyway.

The chance of rain does not rise above 50% until 7 or above 60% until 9 (at which point it is 90% but drops after that).  I'm guessing that they will start the game, delay it if necessary in the middle, then wait as long as necessary (within reason) to resume.  But if they've played enough to make it official (which would be likely by 9), they'll just end it.   Look for them to do everything within their power to get it started on time; that's a clue that this is the plan.

Are you planning on protesting at the G-20 in Hamburg?

That sounds like my idea of hell. I was watching the news and they have literally brought out the fire hoses. I'm hopefully going to eat a metric ton of sausage and drink twice as much beer.
