I like letting Koda learn in the 8th under Kelley. If he can turn into a closer it's a jackpot as he's under team control until 2023. Then Rizzo will look like a genius.

But that happens if we get to deadline and he's got an ERA of 0.7 and a WHIP of 0.6?

Kelley looks so much better out there than Trienan, seems much more in control and confident, isn't nibbling at the corners, trusts his stuff, etc. Treinan still pitches like a starter.

Romero looked way better last night. I don't think he has to worry about being compared to HROD when Treinen can't throw strikes. Blanton, well, not so much.

Still want to quality relievers, including one closer level, before the deadline. Preferably before May.

I have faith in Kelley and Glover right now.

Treinen will come around, he's proven serviceable the last few years.

I have hope Romero will come around too, control has been his biggest problem in the past, yet this year he has only 2 walks in 7 innings to go along with 7 Ks. He's looked sharper his last few outings. With time, I think Maddux will make him good and potentially even great.

Perez is Perez. Meh. Hopefully Enny is in good form and Solis does well when he comes back so we can DFA this bum when we get a real reliever added to the mix.

Blanton has been a great reclamation project the last few years and has turned himself into a quality middle relief/set-up man. The problem so far is that he's given up 3 hr in only 8 innings. In those 8 innings he has 7 Ks, 2 walks given up, and 7 hits given up. He'll come around when the hr rate drops with a larger sample size.

Solis will bounce back when he comes back from the DL.

Well that's the primary 7.

I see the pen as being middle of the pack by midseason. All we'll need to make the jump is one above-average closer to solidify things.

Albers is also worth more looks. He had a great 2012-2015 but a horrendous 2016.

Naming Treinen the closer was a disaster. It's clearly obvious he doesn't trust his stuff now. Complete mental case.

Enny Romero has solved his walks issue by simply giving up home runs.

Looks like Dusty is trying to put Enny into the higher leverage lefty slot, at least until Solis is back. It blew up, of course. Treinen is now 5th in the bullpen pecking order, behind Kelley, Glover, Blanton, and Solis (Romero until Solis is back). Albers looks like a mop up guy for them right now. Perez has looked OK. I'll be curious who is sent down or released when Solis is back. They may give him a little extra rehab while they sort things out, but by rights, probably Treinen should be in AAA (assuming they aren't cutting Blanton or Romero).

It'll probably be Treinen, barring an injury to someone else; his issues now are mental and a lot of guys need to go to the minors to work those types of things out.

Enny's issue last night seemed to be more of pitch selection and not execution.

Treinen was lucky last year. His FIP was mid 3s

We are on the same pace the Cubs were last year. We have an offense that is just as good, if not better (if it stays healthy). Rizzo needs to make a move as soon as possible to fix the pen. At the bare minimum, a closer. More than likely, we need a closer and back of the pen lefty.

I won't go too crazy over last night, Coors is just kinda absurd for everyone.

I still would like to acquire a legit lockdown closer though. Having that one guy just makes it so much easier for everyone else. Look at the impact Miller had in Cleveland or Chapman in Chicago last year.

It irritates me that he was so effective for the Dodgers last year in the NLDS before wetting himself against the Cubs. No way the front office goes after him if he pitched poorly against us.
