2017 bullpen watch
« Topic Start: March 24, 2017, 05:47:23 PM »
Hey guys,

I'm afraid I have changed jobs, and will no longer be able to just sit and watch ball games at my computer during work time. This means I will be listening to Charlie and dave every day at work as I slave away.

I've been slack this spring, been tough to keep up with the change of job and a heap of other things going on.. so, with that said, I couldnT see a bullpen thread, I know we have issues with closer and the debate at who gets first crack, but who else is going to be in the bullpen?

Obviously treinen, Kelley, Glover, Blanton are all in, but what loogys make it? And who else have I forgotten.

Going to be sad to miss out on the GDT, except for weekends, but I'll still be here regularly

C&D is a hell of a consolation prize. And I think AtBat has video highlights of the big plays, too.

I think a Kelley/Treinen/Glover 7-8-9 might actually be pretty solid.

The rest of the pen is a bit worrisome though.

Blanton and Solis were both lights out last year.

I think this pen will be quite good.

If either Kelley or Glover becomes a passable closer then that is a pretty salty bullpen. I'd have rather signed a big time closer but Blanton was a good signing.

I had heard that Wieters is very good at developing pitchers and the Dusty was going to lean on him to identify the closer. I wonder if that happened....

if he can turn Enny Romero into Zach Britton I'll take it.

Romero if he pitches even 80% of his performance this spring will be Rizzo's 2nd biggest fleece. Dude throws str8 gas.

too literal.  I'll take any unhittable pitch from Romero.  We can let Britton keep his sinker.

Quiet day on the board I guess. Both Nathan and Albers cut. I also believe Guthrie has an opt-out?

It appears that it is down to J.Turner, Worley , Guthrie, Perez and Romero for the last spot unless Glover is optioned so it could be two spots.

Romero doesn't have any options, so he will either make the roster or go out on waivers.

That would be a moronic move.

Maybe they can turn Gott into a .300 hitting infielder like the Angels did...

I thought Worley would be better in the AL than he was with the O's last year, but he is nothing special.

Glad they are keeping Gutherie-a.k.a-Guts.

Turner reassigned.

I'd be cutting Perez, Guthrie becomes long man, and Difo is optioned to AAA.

My guess is Guthrie is on the outside looking in though because cutting Perez is the smart answer. Or they could make up an injury for him.

Good article from Chelsea James that is very optimistic about the bullpen prospects. And projects Treinen as the closer.

Maybe the Angels can turn Escobar in to an MVP candidate like the Nationals did.

This is like not wanting to throw Glover in there, have him fail and look desperate only to overpay for a closer at the trade deadline.
