tl;dr - if we don't get hurt, we should win again.

Discounting the Mutts so easily? They were good last year and almost all their pitchers were hurt, they're going to be tough this year.

I think almost all their pitchers are going to be hurt this year too.  Harvey's already having problems.

Ok, I'm weighing in early about the season. I'm not optimistic. Sherzer doesn't make 30 starts. Ross flames out and at best is a #5. Strasburg does not have his Cy Young year but does well. Gio is Gio  (inconsistent) and Roark wins 15 games. BP is a disaster. Blanton and Nathan are cut by June. Treinen becomes the closer and does OK but Rizzo gets a real closer by Aug 1. Glover , Kelley , Solis  are decent set up men.
Taylor is the ST King and is sent down by the end of May batting <.200. Weiters doesn't start over a 100 games and Lobaton has no offensive skills. Werth and Zimmerman are rested often and one of them should be benched but isn't because he is on the DL. Turner has an extremely slow start that lasts until June. Rendon has a lacksidasical (sp) season. Harper carries the team the whole season. Murph does not repeat 2016 but is solid. Baker mis-uses the BP and takes too long to slide Murph over to 1B and inserting Drew at 2B. 84 wins . Subject to modifications by OD.

Assuming health(not the best assumption), their P staff is a little deeper but I like our lineup better. Its even but I give us the edge because I think Harper will be an MVP candidate again and that'll give us that extra 1 or 2 wins over them that we'll need to win the division. It'll be a very close race though.

That did not take long,
Matz missing his spring training start because of elbow tenderness.

I feel cautiously optimistic.  I think Harper returns to form and has a monsterous year.  I think the starters do well.  But I don't like not having a legitimate closer like we did last year.  That may be our downfall.

Who was the legitimate starter we had last year? We got one midseason but we didn't start the season with one.  We can do the same this year.

Hmm I figured it'd be more, Mets might've caught a break.

In Philly the past few days.  Wearing the :w: hat.  Finally there was someone who was willing to give me grief today when I was picking up a cup of caffeine.

Syndergaard leaves in the 6th today with blisters.

Also Matz diagnosed with a Strained Flexor tendon meaning exactly what Strasburg had to end last year.

Lugo  is out too but I didn't catch why.

ETA: something with the elbow, out "a couple of weeks."

Looks like the Mets kept the same medical staff from last year.
