I don't know if this is good or bad anymore. To me, the most important thing is getting hot at the end of September. While a weak division allows us to kick the can on the bullpen, I can't help but think the team will get complacent as the season goes on.
Gio said all the right things in an interview about not getting the "W" Saturday night. Very classy but as the season grinds on and there is no improvement in the BP I cannot help but wonder if some pitchers and even some position players start nagging creating some tension in the clubhouse. We're pissed and our livlihoods don't depend on others performance.

Gio can say that because his option kicks in on innings pitched. So the bullpen messing up makes Dusty less likely to pull him.

But but but I thought the Mets were going to have one of the best rotations in baseball history for the next 10 years and dominant the NL East?

This is why you don't count your chickens before they hatch.

Yup, this was obviously gonna happen to them. they are still paying for the way they abused their team in 2015.

I'm not sure that matters. In 2014 we finished the season 8-2 over our last 10 games. The Giants who ended up winning the whole thing finished 4-6.

Mets, Once in the Pitching Penthouse, Are Evicted Early

NY Times

By James Wagner

Quote
PHOENIX — Nearly a quarter of the way into the season, the identity of the Mets — the team with all those dynamic, young, hard-throwing pitchers — has been distorted beyond recognition.

Those pitchers are now either hurt or, too often, helpless. And as a result, the Mets, who going into this season seemed to have a shot at having the best, and deepest, rotation in baseball, instead had the worst E.R.A. in the major leagues — an unsightly 5.13 — going into Tuesday’s games.

It was not supposed to be like this.

Grim times for the Metsies, who just picked up Tommy Milone from the throw-away bin. He'll be a starter.

Freddie Freeman left the game after being HBP on the hand. X-rays were inconclusive and he'll have more tests tomorrow. Clubhouse mood described as "somber." http://www.ajc.com/sports/baseball/freeman-leaves-game-after-being-hit-hand-pitch/BGztRJcDLG8t2AJVdbkxXP/

Blue Jays pitchers have hit 7 or 8 Barves so far in this series and benches have cleared at least once. Tomorrow is the last game in the series. Maybe the Barves borrow Rougned Odor for a day to get some payback.

ETA: unconfirmed reports of broken wrist.

Perhaps the Jays are trying to assume the mantle of Knights Templar of Unwritten Baseball Rules.

There is definitely going to be a fight. Bautista had a bat flip and stare down and slow trot around the bases after his home run with the jays down 5 runs. I can't see any reason he did it, but surely would piss off the braves.

apparently Pillar was quick pitched by Motte and got mad so Bautista got the Barves back, it was all silly yet fun :mg:

Perhaps we should trade Lind to the Braves for their 2 best relievers.  Freeman is out 8-10 weeks.

Bautista's punk ass was exposed before.    He just needs to be humble and trot the bases before somebody clocks him again.

10 weeks according to the Braves' press release. Ouch.

He'd have to actually hit a home run for that to be an issue again.

A team and probably MLB ban a fan from a stadium for life for using a pejorative.   A player uses a pejorative the whole world can see and he gets two games.   :stir:

He said it.  It was stupid.  He apologized.  2 game suspension is fine.  Case closed.  Move on.

In related news, I had no clue that the Braves snuck into 2nd place in the division.

More like the Mets stormed out of 2nd place.
