MILWAUKEE — Behind the curtains of the partying, golfing, absence at work, miscommunication and apology, there was a game. There always was. But over the week for Matt Harvey and the Mets, the attention seemed to center on everything but baseball.

Friday, finally, brought some semblance of routine for Harvey and the Mets in a season that has lacked that so far. For the first time since his unpaid three-day suspension for failing to show up to Citi Field on Saturday, Harvey climbed the mound to confront the issues he faced on the field.

Sent to the mound for the sixth inning against the bottom of the Brewers’ lineup, however, Harvey unraveled. He coughed up two home runs and dug the Mets into a hole they did not overcome in a 7-4 loss.
