No. I think rules are pretty clear you can't force a procedure on a player. That being said, they don't have to send him out there to pitch. They could have put him on the DL. They could have benched him until he got the test. I mean maybe they didn't want to cause friction with their ace, but that decision seems not very smart in hindsight. And probably in foresight too, judging by what Mets fans were saying in the stands before he left with the injury.

There was also the fact that Dusty says he was noticing he didn't look right in the first inning, and the results were looking pretty obviously like something was wrong.  If our manager is noticing it, surely their team must notice it as well.  I don't know if they were just in denial, or they buy into the popular misconception that if he is hitting 100 on the radar gun, all must be good.

It really is the perfect storm for the Mets: an ongoing history of injuries that does seem to be more than one club's fair share, year upon year; the mishandling of Harvey's last start *detail below; the now-infamous rejected Syndegaard MRI; and the injury. When you put them all together, it's really hard to not ask some difficult questions. if I were a fan, I'd be as pissed as that cussin' kid in the video.

*The last Harvey start was moved forward a day; the FO and staff knew Syndegaard might be scratched a day in advance but didn't give Harvey a heads' up. Harvey, blissfully unaware that his schedule might change, stuck to his normal workout routine and ended up without a recovery day, which he says may have been a factor in his poor performance.

Just guessing a mix of Thor downplaying his sore arm situation and the coaches feeling like their backs are up against the wall with so many ongoing injuries that they were overly optimistic. I can't imagine the pressure that that whole staff is under, everyone from the players to the FO. The players are probably hoping to power through whatever's bugging them because they don't want to let the team/fans down (Cabrera, I'm looking right at you, bro) and the coaches/trainers/FO are being more risk-tolerant because they just don't have any good reserve options. It's like how when one guy makes a bonehead error and somehow it catches on to the rest of the team and you've somehow made 5 errors in an inning and nobody knows how you got there. Except instead of errors, it's injuries.

My only regret is that the Nats didn't score 23 on Saturday when those loudmouths were here.

lol but still I don't see how not giving Harvey the head's up he's on deck for Thor if he can't go was the wisest move.

So create a standoff: you can't pitch until you get an MRI, and he continues to refuse to MRI.  In which case he never pitches again (until one side or the other gives in).  Mets were in a tough situation; might as well send him out there and see what happens.

Syndegaard started 2015 in minor league ball. I'm really not an expert on service times and stuff but if he wasn't out of options, bounce his ass over to AAA until he has the MRI. Hindsight though.

He refused to have the MRI.  Does the player contract allow the team to force him?
No, but the team could have said you're not pitching until you get it done.

Every NL Player of the Week so far has been from the NL East and has played against the Mets during that week.

4/10: Realmuto
4/17: Ozuna
4/24: Harper
5/1: Zimmerman

Pretty sure the mlbpa would laugh, file the grievance and win. I'm guessing there is no trust between the players, medical staff, and front office.

Maybe it'll be Freddie Freeman this week.

He wants a second opinion. Dumb move to pitch hurt and a dumb move for the Mets to let him. Can't trust pitchers. And then when the ones who admit they are hurt don't pitch (Strasburg) the fans go crazy and call them names (the Flower or LaFleur).

between thor being out for that long, Harvey not looking sharp at all, and matz and lugo being out another month or so, they should be very, VERY worried about their season's prospects.  I wouldn't be surprised if they pull a trade for Quintana to make up for it.
