Nate Freiman and Ryan Lavarnway with homers in a 15-7 win. If Netherlands (Profar, Simmons, Bogaerts, Gregorius infield - Bogaerts to 3d and Profar I think to 1st) beats Korea, then Israel advances to the 2d round. I'm guessing there will be some Seoul-searching in Korea if they can't advance.

Edit - wrong. They beat Korea, so with a win over Taipei the Netherlands and Israel advance. Profar is playing center because Schoop is also on the Netherlands. Gregorius is DH. Who's on first?

Randolph Oduber and Shairon Martis are both playing for the Dutch.

Colombia and the USA tonight at 6.

Pretty amazing that Team American Jews went undefeated in Pool play. Kudos to those guys.

half the starters are AAAA players or a little better (Lavarnway, Fuld, Davis, Frieman) so they should be able to pound less than MLB pitching. There's a couple of legit prospects too. Zeid has looked effective. Let's see them v. Cuba and Japan.

Yep. Born and raised. Has dual citizenship. There are lots of guys on some of these teams who are not citizens of those countries. I believe the rule is that you just have to be eligible.

I think the rule is something like, if you have a grandparent who would have been eligible to qualify for a passport from the country, then you can play for that country. While for Italy, generally that has meant a grandparent from over on the boot, like Grilli and Piazza, for Israel, with the Law of Return, any Jew can qualify for citizenship automatically by just showing up, and can get a passport. That's why only one of the guys on a the team, a reliever, is Israeli, and I think Borchum is the only one with dual citizenship. Kelly is Catholic but eligible due to one parent being a Jew. Marquis, OTOH, practices the faith.
