OWINGS MILLS, Md. -- Ray Lewis said the Baltimore Ravens chose not to sign Colin Kaepernick after the quarterback's girlfriend posted a "racist" tweet featuring the former All-Pro linebacker and owner Steve Bisciotti.

"We were going to close the deal to sign him," Lewis said on Showtime's "Inside the NFL" on Tuesday night. "Steve Bisciotti said, 'I want to hear Colin Kaepernick speak to let me know that he wants to play football.'"

"And it never happens because that picture comes up the next day."

The Aug. 2 tweet by Nessa Diab compared a picture of Lewis hugging Bisciotti to a scene from "Django Unchained," where Samuel L. Jackson's loyal house slave held Leonardo DiCaprio's cruel plantation owner.

"His girl [Kaepernick's girlfriend] goes out and put out this racist gesture and doesn't know we are in the back office about to try to get this guy signed," Lewis said. "Steve Bisciotti has said it himself: 'How can you crucify Ray Lewis when Ray Lewis is the one calling for Colin Kaepernick?'"

I couldn't sleep last night and saw this show was on and tuned it to see what they had to say. The first thing they did was introduce the new member of the team Ray Lewis. That moron couldn't make it at ESPN because he can't piece together a coherent thought and he lands a new gig with Showtime. So now that show features Ray Lewis, Phil Simms, Boomer Esaison and host James Brown. And James Brown lost 80 pounds and doesn't look healthy.

It depends on if the player in question is any good or not and Kaepernick hasn't been any good for a couple of years now.

What I'm saying is that if you're an unquestionably good player with "off the field issues", you'll get signed, but if you're not; and Kaepernick has not been for a few years now; you'll likely be considered too much trouble to bother with.

They also are willing to accept lower salaries and/or the backup role AND don't get people worked up over politics.

So it looks like the Elliott saga is still pending and depending on the ruling on Friday he might be allowed to keep playing until they figure out what the hell is going on. Isn't this a case where the woman already refused to testify (meaning she already got paid to go away)?
