Wonder how much of a discount we'll get.

Pretty sweet to wait him out and get him at a great price if this does indeed end up being the case.

2-year deal with an option?

Looks like we bailed out Boras again.

Seems pretty mutually beneficial tbh though that is being said without knowing what the final numbers will be.

#Nationals were landing spot most in industry expected for Wieters. Front office was lukewarm, but Boras relationship with owners is strong.

Player opt-out, too. Geez.

Absurd...But our window is closing and nobody else wants to come here...

I don't care.  Derrick Norris wasn't the answer at catcher.  This gives us a great option.

Oh, great, so Rizzo doesn't actually want this guy, but the Learners do?

Mike will say he made the final decision though...

So based on this...

Severino to AAA. I would say Lobaton would stick as the defensive minded catcher... but perhaps they want Norris as a platoon partner.

Our lineup is pretty stacked now. Werth and Zimmerman are the easy outs now

Am I wrong to say Wieters sucks now? I don't see him playing more than 80 games at catcher (at best), and his bat is just okay.

He certainly hasn't been great for the past three years (and injured a lot). Your point is difficult to counter.

I just have hope that he turns it around and we benefit from it.

He was worth 1.7 WAR last year in 124 games compared to Norris at -0.4 for almost the exact amount of games. That's an obvious upgrade imo.

There's got to be a trade coming if/when this deal gets completed.

If you're wishing for a rebound, why not bet on the guy who's healthy, especially at catcher? The NL doesn't have a DH and Face ain't gonna be benched.

Good move. Now go get a closer you half-assers. I wouldn't trade severino to white sox, keep the kid.

And it frees up Norris to be the closer.  Best option we've had yet.  Things are looking up.

Pretty sure that Wieters is an easy out at this point.

So based on this...

Severino to AAA. I would say Lobaton would stick as the defensive minded catcher... but perhaps they want Norris as a platoon partner.

We know these will stay: Drew, Heisey, Lind

In theory, the team could just roll with Lobaton and Norris as bench pieces, sending Severino and Taylor down to Triple A. Turner's ability to play CF gives you some short term flexibility, in that for a few games, you can play Drew at SS and Turner in CF. If it's long term, you put someone on the DL and call up a player from Triple A.

If Norris can find his bat again, he's definitely a guy you want to get some starts to against LHP, as well as make for a nice pinch hitter. Drew and Lind are pretty poor against LHP, so you don't want to leave Heisey and Taylor/Difo as the remaining pinch hitter. Norris provides a good option. Plus, we know at some point, Zimmerman will go on the DL. Be nice to have a platoon of Lind/Norris to start at first base.
