Yeah, I didn't see anything that indicated anything worse than that.  This isn't the Aaron Barrett injury or anything.

To be fair, the Aaron Barrett surgery was also a "success" when it was done.

It's wasn't the surgery not holding up that put Barrett on indefinite hiatus, it's that he broke his humerus while pitching in a rehab stint. Think Dave Dravekcy, Tom Browning, or Tony Saunders.

Apparently Barrett's second injury was somehow worse than all of those.  Multiple doctors initially refused to believe it was possible to injure one's arm that badly throwing a baseball.  Dr. James Andrews, a man who's performed hundreds of arm operations, thought Barrett had to have been hit by a car to cause that much damage. Mat Latos saw it happen and vomited in the dugout, while players on adjacent fields mistook the noise of it for a gunshot.  That's...well, Latos' reaction seems pretty reasonable.

I believe the other guys listed also had the "gunshot" sound when pitching as well, only they did it in MLB games where it was far louder than a random rehab game in Viera. Still, There is something weird about Barrett's bones since the density is normal, but the doctors broke 8 drill bits or something crazy like that when they were repairing his humerus. It was said that the torque required would have meant the ball would have traveled 105 mph, so no idea what caused the break.

He actually should have started piching already, or will very soon as it was last stated he will resume activities in July, 1 year after his arm surgery.

I thought these descriptions of his injury were facetious. Good Lord.

I'd be highly impressed if he ever made it back and would gladly stand up and cheer him, regardless of uniform (even Barves, if it came to that).  For someone who's clearly a bit of a physical oddball and already snapped his arm rehabbing a prior injury, I'd be really really cautious: Saunders was rehabbing from breaking his arm when he broke it again.

I mean, it would be crazy to see him return, and I doubt anyone thinks he will. Still, I believe he will totally try to come back and then the strength and conditioning begins. Since this is a weird occurrence in baseball, doctors still aren't completely sure of the "why" when this happens. Especially if bone density is fine, what caused his humerus to snap?

You never know.  Definitely rooting for him, that's for sure.

Werth out here taking BP. Has that been typical?

Huh, I had read that baseball activities were still a week away for him. Taking BP should be a good sign.

He was taking BP in Cincy, too. He said he could do everything except run. Unless there's been an update, I'd assume that's still where he's at.

Is there a realistic chance Eaton returns for the playoffs?

I can't imagine a scenario in which he would be ready to contribute by October.  Hell, I'm worried about Opening Day next year.  We do need Michael A Taylor back though.

That's what I thought, thank you.

I read on Taylor we may be looking for an OF because Taylor had a setback. No bueno.

I'm not even sure "setback" is accurate. Obliques can be a real nag to heal, and they do it completely on their own timeline.  Rendon in 2015, Revere in 2016 (he's still not back from that). Or you get lucky like 2011 Longoria and only miss a month and come back where you left off. Hopefully MAT will be more like Longoria than Revere.

Who would have thought anyone would write this sentence at the beginning of the year?

Per Chelsea James

Michael A. is running with Harvey Sharman right now. Sharman does a great job keeping up with rehabbing injured guys. Turner, aside.

Read the last page or two. Gives a good update on where he is and why he had a setback.

Clearl he's alive, he was seen on TV a couple games ago advising Dusty who consulted him about how good Madson was against lefties.  He was seen last night sitting in the dugout yukking it up with a teammate (I forget who).   Werth cannot run full speed. He can do everything else but until he can run full speed he isn't going to play. And there is no timetable for that.

Now Koda Glover is one who I legitimately wonder might no longer be with us. 😉
