I can't wait to try this - a taco made from fried chicken.

https://www.yahoo.com/news/taco-bell-going-national-fried-175816796.html

If you ever make it through Tejas or here, a chain called Torchy's makes the best fried chicken tacos. They are opening a spot at Minute Maid this year, too.

Ha I see them all the time, and if my daughter finds out they've got Torchy's in CO she'll drag those grandkids of mine there for it, I think she kept the Torchy's in Waco in business while she was there

A food critic in San Antonio is going to eat tacos every day for a year.  Lest you think this beyond his reach, he has previously done this in Austin, racking up 1,600 tacos in 2015. And he lost 10 pounds doing it.  Fresh, local, and low carb.

Sounds like Houston's next challenge. The metroplex's taco options are abundant.

Doesn't really seem all that crazy considering you can put almost anything in a taco.

I'll be happy to reproduce this experiment at Chipotle if someone wants to sponsor

I'm a bit surprised Chipotle doesn't do breakfast.  No potatoes, no eggs, so I guess it would mean at least laying in some new ingredients.  Also, maybe introducing eggs sets up potential allergies.  Does McD's still own a chunk of Chipotle?  At one time, it was a subsidiary   Dumb move to spin them off.

The Chipotle in Dulles Terminal B is open for breakfast, but only regular menu.  And so that begs the question, what's wrong with regular menu Chipotle for breakfast? :)

Quick check says McD's fully divested in 2006, although it looks like they'd been pulling out for a while before that.

A friend of mine here is José R. Ralat, a taco writer for the Observer, Texas Monthly, D Magazine, and Cowboys & Indians magazine (which is a real magazine). He's under contract to write an encyclopedic history of American tacos and he takes research trips to places to try their tacos and write off the expenses. One Sunday we went 'taqueando' (basically a verb that means 'going on a taco crawl') to 4 different places and I think I had 6 or 7 tacos

How does one become the "taco writer" for a publication?  And does anyone know of any openings for a "pizza writer" anywhere?????

This has become my new go-to breakfast:

Two ingredients, topped with some peanut or almond butter.  Very simple.

I made this great recipe tonight and recommend to everyone.  The recipe made enough for 2, so multiply for larger crowds

SHRIMP PUTTANESCA
INGREDIENTS
o   8 ounces uncooked linguine (or rice & beans)
o   1 tablespoon olive oil
o   1 lb medium shrimp, peeled and deveined
o   4 cloves garlic, minced
o   3/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes    (can use 1/2 if want less spicy)
o   1 cup chopped onion
o   1 (14 1/2 ounce) cans stewed tomatoes, undrained
o   2 tablespoons tomato paste
o   2 tablespoons chopped pitted kalamata olives or 2 tablespoons black olives
o   1 tablespoon capers
o   1/4 cup chopped fresh basil
o   salt and pepper
DIRECTIONS
1.   Cook linguine according to package directions, drain and set aside.
2.   In a large non-stick skillet, heat oil over medium high heat.
3.   Put shrimp, garlic, and red pepper flakes in pan; cook and stir for 3 to 4 minutes or until shrimp are opaque.
4.   Remove shrimp from pan with slotted spoon and set aside.
5.   Add onion to skillet; cook for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
6.   Add tomatoes with juice, tomato paste, olives, and capers; simmer, uncovered, for 5 minutes.
7.   Return shrimp mixture to skillet; simmer 1 to 2 minutes.
8.   Add in basil and stir; simmer 1 minute.
9.   Season to taste with salt and pepper.
10.   Put linguine in a large serving bowl; top with shrimp mixture.
11.   Serve immediately.

Sounds really good.  I'd probably turn the garlic from "cloves" to "bulbs" and double, but otherwise spot on.
