Tennis 2017

Some compelling stories in the Australian Open. Possibility of another Federer-Nadal final. Who woulda thunk it. And same for the Williams sisters. And three Americans in the women's semis. Of course two are Williams.

It seems like the Williams sisters have been winning titles down there since Captain Cook's days.  I guess Navratilova played well into her 40s.

They probably can play doubles into their sixties.

Williams sisters did their part. And Federer. Now it's up to Nadal.

Venus hadn't been to a major final since 2009.

Yea. Unbelievable. The woman Serena faced in the semis last faced her at Wimbledon in 1999. Remarkable they are still playing.

If you told me we would see another Williams sister final OR a Federer-Nadal final I would have bet against it.  Now we have both in the same major.

Nadal pulls a remarkable feat by winning the French for the tenth time.

4 'Mericans in the semis at the US Open; even without Serena. Good show!

I was able to attend the Western and Southern Open a few weeks ago; it's played about 20 miles north of Cincinnati.  Got to see Nadal but of course he lost.  Most of the top men did not appear due to injuries.  Saw a glimpse of the Bryan Brothers but the highlight was sitting right next to the court for the last set of a women's doubles match--only even recognized one of the 4 players.  Can really see how well they hit the ball up that close and doubles is fun to watch (and play).

One of these years we will take in the US Open.

I haven't followed tennis in years but I have been peekin' at this years Open.    I think a trip to NYC for the finals would be pretty cool.

I have a friend who goes each year during the week; daytime.  Lots of matches to see on the outside courts.  Finals and the ones leading up cost quite a bit. And it's a really big stadium so not sure how much you see.

I was surprised how expensive the tickets out here were; the lower level were $200-250 face per ticket.  Upper level we had for FRiday night were $80 face value.  I suppose those who have tickets for each session get a break on that.  SIL's program director has a box near the court. He and daughter went one night this year--maybe we will get to sit there next year??

The missus really wants to go to NYC to see her guy Federer.
