Melvin Upton Jr out for 8 weeks for hand surgery.

Also, Giants team bus backed into a car on the way to Coors Field.

Pedroia was more pissed at his pitcher's retaliation than he was at Manny's slide.

All but the day game, yeah. Whytev mentions the split loyalty.

honestly, I thought it was one of the dirtiest slides I've seen under the new rules.  That leg comes in high and spikes him a foot and half past the base.

Homer     :couch:    On a serious note, it's another reason I don't want him on the Nats.

I actually think this is just about the best thing that could happen to/for the Marlins.

We just had this discussion before the news broke. Also thinking the same. Loria can shove off

I'd rather see Loria in charge. Better for the Nats. Not a baseball town anyway.

Reports of Felix Hernandez having dead arm, http://www.cbssports.com/fantasy/baseball/news/mariners-felix-hernandez-plagued-by-dead-arm/
he really looked awful last night.  It was him vs. JZ.  JZ has lost it too.  Spotted a 7-2 lead and still got in trouble.

'Dead arm' is the baseball version of colic. It's what they say when they don't know why something is acting horribly, but they have to say something.

Syndegaard scratched, possibly tendinitis in the biceps. Seeing doctors today/tomorrow. Not yet ruled out for a start in DC this weekend.

Cespedes left the game with an even worse hurt hammy, headed to the DL for sure now.

https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/mlb/2017/05/01/orioles-adam-jones-berated-racist-taunts-fenway-park-peanuts/101187172/

I'm listening to a talk show right now.  A guy called in and said he was seated a few rows behind the guy who threw peanuts.  From the box seats near the Os dugout.  Drunk, of course, but he managed to hit Jones.  While the crowd pointed the guy out and he was thrown immediately, that doesn't explain the epithets and how they were tolerated.  Awful situation.  I wonder how quick these jackasses would turn on Mookie Betts or Jackie Bradley if they are capable of saying this stuff when they are loosened up by alcohol?
Quote
“It’s different,’’ he said. “Very unfortunate. I heard there was 59 or 60 ejections tonight in the ballpark. It is what it is, right. I just go out and play baseball. It’s unfortunate that people need to resort to those type of epithets to degrade another human being. I’m trying to make a living for myself and for my family.

“It’s unfortunate. The best thing about myself is that I continue to move on, and still play the game hard. Let people be who they are. Let them show their true colors.’’

Red Sox officials confirmed to USA TODAY Sports that a fan threw a bag of peanuts at Jones, and was ejected from the ballpark. They were investigating the total amount of people who were ejected from the game, but believed it was about half the amount for a variety of violations.

Jones was grateful the fan was caught who threw the bag of peanuts toward him into the dugout, but wishes the punishment was much more severe.

“It’s pathetic,’’ he said. “It’s called a coward. What they need to do is that instead of kicking them out of the stadium, they need to fine them 10 grand, 20 grand, 30 grand. Something that really hurts somebody. Make them pay in full. And if they don’t, take it out of their check.
For the guys throwing stuff, yes, you could probably max out the charge to assault and battery (no question of intent), but for yelling trash, I don't think you can fine.  Since peanut man was in the rich guy seats, maybe pulling season tickets would hurt. That's what Kraft did when he took control of the Patriots to clean up old foxborough stadium.  Any offense by anyone using your seats, you lose your season tickets (drunk, fighting, abusive language, etc...).  It's written right into the contract.

That quote above shows that Adam Jones just MIGHT be a little out of touch with what people actually make as a salary. Expecting someone to give up half a year's pay as an alternative to being kicked out of the stadium is a pretty massive escalation. I get hyperbole, but you could change 10, 20, or, 30 grand to 100, 500, or, 1000 dollars and still hurt most of the people in the country pretty badly.

*edit: and I should have read your full response JCA. I think if it's a case of season tickets, punishing the ticket holder makes sense to an extent, but given how many shared season plans there are, I'm not sure I agree with yanking the tickets away. Forcing that one person out of the ST group, sure. Taking out the entire group... not so much.
