I'm not always one to see unspoken intent but Duquette could not come off worse with this nonsense :smh:

I like our guys. Our guys are good. [Mark] Trumbo is like a working-class-type baseball player. If he was going to work every day on a construction site, you would understand that he brings that kind of work ethic every day. That’s the kind of player that our fans identify with. We try to get gritty players that work hard every day and give their best effort every day.

Is this real life? It's like if someone asked PFT commenter the question. What a buffoon.

Right?  and as the author pointed out Trumbo's been on the team a whole year, meanwhile Adam Jones has been the heart of that team but he's not who the fans identify with or appreciate or the type of player they want?  he needs to GTFO with that, seriously, it's so tired that attitude.

Also pftcommenter is my absolute favorite read on the internet right now, this article is brilliant, better than Colbert at his best:

Are all the typos and misspelled words intentional?

Definitely, it's his schtick but he's a flippin' genius.

Interesting that Atlanta is acknowledging their failures in TJ rehab: http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/if-the-braves-fail-it-will-be-for-the-right-reasons/

We didn’t do Jonny Venters, Brandon Beachy and Kris Medlen any favors in rushing them back from Tommy John surgery,” Coppolella said. “Beachy came back nine months. His first pitch was 95 and his last pitch was 81. He hasn’t really been back since… We don’t want guys back in 10 months or 12 months. We want to try and extend it to 15-18. Give them flexibility.

B-but Strasburg shouldn't have been shut down.

Doesn't he still have sexual assault charges hanging over him here? What a mess.

Yeah, 3 DUIs there and an open sexual assault investigation here.  Can't say that him being denied a visa bothers me too much.

Red Sox and Orioles on ESPN. Watching so I can have intelligent conversations with all the Red Sox fans here. They posted a career comparison of Harper and Machado. Harper has an OPS about 70 points higher. Interesting.

I don't think anyone would argue that Machado is the better offensive player when both are healthy. But Machado has the clear advantage in defensive value.

I'd probably take Harper over Machado if I was betting on who would have an 8+ win season, but the reverse if I was betting on who would have a 6+ win season.

Good thoughts.

Teams release veterans. Spring Training’s end also brought the release of a number of MLB veterans, who now face decisions about how best to continue their careers. Veterans who became free agents this week include Jimmy Rollins (Giants); Jared Hughes (Pirates); James Loney (Rangers); Desmond Jennings and Ryan Raburn (Reds); Mike Pelfrey and Mark Lowe (Tigers; Lowe agreed to a minor-league deal with the Mariners); Michael Bourn (Orioles); Vance Worley and Joe Nathan (Nationals); Bryan Holaday, Ryan Hanigan and Chris Coghlan (Phillies; Holaday signed with the Tigers, while Hanigan signed with the Rockies); Paco Rodriguez and Blaine Boyer (Braves); Kevin Jepsen (Diamondbacks); and Munenori Kawasaki (Cubs; Kawasaki is heading back to Japan). Also, the Rockies designated veteran reliever Jason Motte.

I wonder if Pelfrey would be willing to move to the bullpen.

The Cubs opening day defensive outfield: Schwarber, Heyward, Zobrist. I get that they are awesome at a lot of things but that doesn't seem good.

Madison Bumgarner leads the NL in HRs with two. Maybe he should play 1b when he's not pitching.

Yankees, Giants and Cubs all lost Sunday   The only thing that could've made me happier is if the Cardinals could somehow have lost too.

Padres C/OF/RP Christian Bethancourt is the first guy out of the pen. They're trying to make him a two way player.

He just walked Kershaw. So far pretty mixed outing.

Blue Jays release Melvin Upton. Padres on the hook for most of his salary. http://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/19059067/toronto-blue-jays-release-melvin-upton-jr-put-closer-roberto-osuna-dl

THANK god !!!!  I HATED when they picked him up--always have disliked him, as a prime example of an utterly over-hyped prospect, who failed to deliver...ANYTHING...
