Rosenthal says the braves are close to trading for Brandon Phillips, the guy who didn't want to come here.

1. LOLBarves over the Nats? Thanks anyways, Murphdawg is great.

2. KR also reported Sean Rodriguez is out for awhile after the surgery he had from getting hit by that guy running from the cops. That really sucks, and I'm glad him and his family are okay, but it's crappy he's going to lose his gig because of that jerk.

The Reds are paying most of his salary and they didn't give up much.

Looks like Travis Wood's deal with the Royals is for a $12MM guarantee over 2 years, with an option.  $4MM, $6.5MM, and an $8MM option with a $1.5MM buyout (per MLBTR).  Initially I thought the deal was for much less and was quite annoyed that we did not move on him, but I can see that this is too much for essentially a lefty swingman.  I would still want a lefty to emerge from the non-roster guys so that we have a non-Gio lefty and perhaps Ross back in the pen to beef it up.

All the lefty non-roster invitees are relievers. I mentioned it in the off-season thread, but I think Jon Neise on a cheap deal wouldn't be a bad move.

Anyone a little scared that Scott Boras is looking for a 10-year mega contract for Eric Hosmer next offseason, and the Nationals love bailing out Scott Boras?

Astros pitcher Edison Frias. Walks his first two batters. Then gives up two home runs the. Hits the next two and is ejected.

seems it rains in large quantities so rarely that they did not bother to install drainage there.  PAC!

Nebraska lost two games in Arizona last week because the Angels didn't have drainage or a tarp in their ST facility.

Not that you didnt see it coming but David Wright apparently has a career ending shoulder injury that he is getting a 2nd opinion for but it is looking like he is done.

he was probably done more than a year ago.  Interesting to see he and Zimmerman follow a roughly equal downhill trajectory.

numerous reports of David Price going to Dr. Andrews for a second opinion on potential UCL surgery.  Peter Abraham of the Boston Globe, picked up by Fangraphs, and not just the usual unreliable source (JimBo's twitter).

What a bad contract that has the potential to be.

they gave up a lot for Thornburg to set up for Kimbrel, so I don't think so.  Secondary arms like Joe Kelly and Matt Barnes are "proven closers."  They had 6 starters for 5 spots, so I imagine they at least try to limp by with Steven Wright, Eduardo Rodriguez, and Pomeranz, along with Sale and Porcello.
