I'll never understand some fans not wanting to pay this guy?
It's not a matter of paying him. It's how much. And will he walk anyway for another team. They don't have unlimited funds to pay the players.

he's going to Cali. Since he likes to be involved in every play, I'd park him at 1B.

Uh-oh. Harper got pumped up. I guess he still doesn't understand the unwritten rules and washington fans.  ;)

Would you rather your team "matter" or win?  Cause it ain't gonna be both.

Of course it can be.  The Red Sox had Papi AND Manny and won two World Series while all the while their fans got to watch two dynamic, charismatic players who were paid handsomely. It absolutely can be both.

of course, Papi was being paid like Stan Papi at the time.  Ortiz never was one of the top salaries because he was always extending his contract rather than going to FA.

Manny Ramirez, huh.  I guess we have different ideas about charisma. To me he was an obnoxious  clown.  A truly great hitter, but a clown.  And a juicer.  Ortiz.  He was a DH. To me, that's not even a baseball player.

Seriously now, the numbers that get thrown around for Harper are around $35M/year with an opt-out after 3 years.  I'll buy that,  IF IT IS A TEAM OPT OUT!  But he'll want a 10 year commitment from the team with a three year commitment from him.  I want no part of that deal.
