Go to 2:45. Mike Trout is one-upping Bryce in the stupid workout routines. NSFW language

So depressing that its a foregone conclusions he's going to NY this far out and Washington wont even try to keep him. Trout will stay in LAAA too. Watch.

And the Nats are never going to end up winning a title with Harper. it will be a storyline forever.

It's not so certain that Harper will sign with the Yankees, and it's likely that the Nats will win the NL East again in 2017 or 2018. Anything after the division title is chance-y. Since Washington teams more often competed for the cellar than for the pennant, after 1933, this team looks pretty good.

Offhand, I think that pitching and overall depth matters more than one slugger. Optimism.

The hardest thing about losing Bryce would be losing a bonafide star that brings people out to the ballpark and creates excitement fo the team.  He's got a lot of kids around here excited about baseball, and losing that would hurt the franchise.  On the other hand, he's not the guy I would bet a half a billion dollars on staying healthy past 29 or 30.  That contract has the potential to be the ultimate albatross.

I think you've just about nailed this on the head. From a franchise standpoint, Harper is essential for developing fans right out of the gate. A lot of us were cheering for other teams until the Nats came to D.C. Having the kids cheer for the Nats as their first ever baseball team is something the franchise has never seen, and Harper most certainly has an influence on that. He's what gets them excited about wanting to attend a Nats game.

But yes, that money is something else. It's not wrong to feel uncomfortable giving Harper that money right now, but we'll have to see how it plays out in the next few years.

People tend to speak of Harper as if 2016 never happened. As if he is a perennial MVP candidate, when in fact he’s had one outstanding season in five. If he replicates 2015 in 2017 and then again in 2018, then he’s worth whatever he’s asking.  More likely, I think maybe he’ll have one great month and then five months of either a mystery injury or just forgetting his mechanics again – in 2017 and maybe again in 2018.  If that happens, how much do you think he’ll be worth – for that matter, how much do you think the kids of DC will care about him?

He could be the babyface of the franchise.  I think we need someone who looks more more rugged to be the actual face of the franchise.  Too bad we traded Espinosa.

No one has more facial baby fat than Zimmerman, current face.

He reminds of Spiderman in the Marvel movies in that regard. Young guy with a lot of potential being put in with stars like Harper, Scherzer, Strasburg etc...

Just amateur hour of the organization to come out 2 years in advance with "plan to move on from Harper" reports floating. No other team in baseball would do that. Don't see the Orioles floating that with Machado. It is and was bad for business. They have never really figured out how to become a baseball town and never will. Unbecoming of a good organization to do that. Took a lot of wind out of a lot of sails believe me. People didn't like that, no matter the motive.

The good news is that of the other 29 MLB teams, one of them will do it the right way.  You can join their FF for free.

I'd go with Scherzer based on personality alone.
Also, he's probably the only guy rich enough to be Tony Stark.
