due to timing  and age, i went to the original F street location but never made it up to V street.  With Grohl in town Thursday, do you suppose they have him do the national anthem before his show if there is a game 5?

I would love that.  Foo are rumored to be doing an invite-only show Wednesday so it's not like he'll be rushing from the airport Thursday, but if we have an 8pm game then the timing won't work out.  A shame Chuck Brown never did it.  Would be nice to see more DC musicians represented and there's no more distinct example of DC music than go-go.

huge dire straits fan.  I don't know if you put in Mark Knopfler rather than the whole band.  That said, they had a 7 year prime with him, and just some wonderful compositions.  If the only thing you think of is "money for nothing" then you are missing what made the band great.

by the way, that sounds like the Paradise, a club near BU.  1980 was its prime.  I wasn't a big club scene guy, but I saw a few shows there, the Rat (more of a punk venue), and a club or two on Landsdowne street.

I snagged one of these concert posters while at Maryland, but had it lost or stolen over the years.  Would love to get another one.

"My Mind Is For Sale" by Jack Johnson

Well, I heard the blinker's on
I heard we're changing lanes
I heard he likes to race
I heard there's six or seven words he likes to use
Are always in bad taste
And I heard that Monday's just a word we say
Every seven times around
And then we pin the tail on Tuesday
Watch those strings go up and down
The elephant in the room begins to dance
The cameras zoom into
His mouth begins to move
Those hateful words he uses

I don't care for your paranoid
"Us against them" walls
I don't care for your careless
"Me first, gimme gimme" appetite at all

And all the real estate in my mind is for sale
It's all been subdivided
Divided into reasons why
My two opposing thoughts at once are fine
The residue from the price tag
On the tip of my tongue
Words don't come, they go
How many likes I gotta get
Before I know the truth
And the truth is
Season three will be a great reason
To forget all about
Reality's a slippery slope
Watch the TV, scream and shout it

I don't care for your paranoid
"Us against them", fearful kind of walls
I don't care for your careless
"Me first, gimme gimme" appetite at all

Now I heard the blinker's on
I heard we're changing lanes
I heard we need more space
I heard there's six or seven words are in bad taste
It's absurd to believe that we might
Deserve anything
As if it's balanced in the end
And the good guys always win

I don't care for your paranoid
"Us against them" fearful kind of walls
I don't care for your careless
"Me first, gimme gimme" appetite
With the residue from the price tag
On those two opposing thoughts in my mind
Us against them fearful kind of walls

I saw Nirvana a bunch of times, but never the Foos.  One wonders what the lay of the musical land would be if Cobain hadn't married -- I mean done -- that.

Taking the missus to see Bruno Mars at the MGM on December 20th.  I don't know anything about him, but Mrs. VaRK really likes him.

Figured it was the least I could do since she sat thru that dreadful Springsteen concert with me at Nats Park last summer...  :couch:

Just the way you are is my favorite Mars song. Suggest you find a clip of when he was the Super Bowl halftime show.

Motherless Children

They had a Clapton concert from San Diego in 2007 last night on AXS.  Derek Trucks on slide, JJ Cale sitting in on Cocaine, and Robert Cray on Crossroads.

Badge was my favorite Cream track.  Should have been longer is all...

Ahhh you are sooo lucky! "It Will Rain" may be from a stupid Twilight movie but it's one of the prettiest songs ever and he is such a showman, you gonna love it!

U2’s songs of experience is finally out.  So far I like what I’ve heard.  It’s not the Joshua tree but it’s pretty solid.

I heard one on Saturday Night Live tonight and was unimpressed, but I haven't really loved anything they've done since "War".

I really liked songs of innocence. Joey ramone and song for someone are fantastic.

Every breaking wave is good also. Are they planting this album free on my IPhone?
