Say hello to heaven.

RIP. Loved most everything he did (sans some nightmare Audioslave and acoustic tracks). Sad day.

His final song last night was zeppelin's "in my time of dying" which they had performed in the past.

How about some '80s retro rock as played by a bunch of modern death metal musicians?

Their new album that those two songs are from released today. Their prior two albums are also great.

interesting.  I've always wondered why there seemingly aren't any bands out there today playing 80's style hair band rock.   These guys sound more like 70's-style rock though - they remind me of the Good Rats.

Yesterday was the 50th anniversary of the Beatles' epic Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band LP.  Thankfully my wife kept her vinyl, sounded great last night.

Quote
In the autumn of 1966, the Beatles wanted to call the Beatles quits; their fame had hemmed them in, surrounded them with trouble. "We were fed up with being the Beatles," Paul McCartney said years later. "We really hated that freaking four-little-moptop approach. We were not boys, we were men. It was all gone, all that boy crap, all that screaming – we didn't want any more."

After their August 29th concert in San Francisco, they left live performing for good. Rumors of tension within the group spread as the Beatles released no new music for months. Up to this point, their influence had been unequivocal – their popularity had fostered myriad rival bands in the mid-1960s – but as a new, adventurous, hallucinogen-informed style of music began emerging from the U.S. (and from London bands like Pink Floyd), it suddenly seemed as if popular music might in fact bypass them. The winds were rapidly shifting. Though their most recent album, Revolver, had been their most innovative, the Beatles understood that any new work would either make or finish them; they had to record an album that would re-establish their eminence. In the process, in late 1966 and early 1967, the group would make the most important album in rock history: Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. "It was great, actually," McCartney told Rolling Stone. "Because we were done touring, people in the media were starting to sense that there was too much of a lull, which created a vacuum, so they could nag about us now. They'd say, 'Oh, they've dried up.' But we knew we hadn't. It was kind of cool – behind the scenes we knew what we were making, and we knew we were very far from drying up. Actually, the exact opposite was happening – we were having a huge explosion of creative forces."

I have my vinyl as well.    I was readin' in the Post a week or two ago an article about a NY Times reviewer who panned it:

Funny story.
One of my brothers had that album. Don't have in my collection. Need to correct that.

Is anyone a fan of the Rippingtons or Spyro Gyra ?  These are upbeat jazz rock musicians.  Rippingtons have played at the Birchmere a number of times

Give it a listen. I think they treated it well. Sounds great to me -- subtle mixing changes + stereo mixes. I never heard those stereo remasters that came out a few years back. This, being remixed in stereo, would be much better (IMO).

Is it available on vinyl?

Indeed. It's a box set, so a little pricy for me right now

I think the original was probably $7.99  ...   :)
that much?  I thought $7.99 came in as a price in the mid-70s.

After I posted, I thought $3.99.    I tried googlin' but couldn't find the 1967 price.    I'll stick with $7.99 until I can find something.    I went with the higher price because it was a double album.     I couldn't have afforded it in '67 regardless of the price.    I was DJ'ing on a free format college station at the time so there was no reason to own it.     :)       $7.99 may well be early to mid-70s.   Stay tuned   ....

Them the breaks. "New" 2xLPs are at least $25 starting, sadly. Most more. Beatles uptick too = $40. Still very pricy, but not the $140 I thought it was. That was the CD box set  :icon_question:
