Missus and I are going to see Pat Benatar at Charles Town Casino in September.  She was fantastic when I saw her a couple of years ago with Lover Boy and Journey...said then that she could and should headline...

I ever mention I could have seen her around 1979 for free with my college ID at Toad's Place? Huey Lewis, too.

Of course, I did get to see the Ramones for free, but that was with a forged door stamp.

who knew who Pat Benatar was at that time.  I remember some of the hype about her - 3 octave range.  Friend of mine went by and talked about looking through the windows and seeing some then hot woman writhing around around on the stage and saying "who the f is Pat Benatar?"  As for Huey, Huey played as if he was on in front of a packed house and ther were maybe 15 people there.  Real turnoff when he started doing the "Thanks everybody.  We're Huey Lewis and the News!"

I think I went to  2 concerts at the coliseum.  The Who on the tour where they had the kid crushed to death out in cincinatti on rush seating, and the Grateful Dead the night of last exams my senior year (I had finished earlier).  Maybe I caught some Southern rock concerts i don't remember.

Saw Bruce Springstein at the Coliseum 3 times in the 1970's - best shows I ever witnessed live, for he played for 4+ hours each time

I saw too many concerts to count at the monstrosity that was the New Haven Coliseum, great great memories of that former eyesore.

Dave Grohl is doing an interview-style show at the Black Cat tonight with his mom. It's in support of her book which is about her experience  raising a future rock star.

I love Life is a Carnival.  Great tune.
It was in a Bill Murray movie also I believe.

I think I like the more spare acoustic arrangement more than the Born to Run version, but I love both.

Some love for Backstreets please.  I think that's my favorite song on that album.

Truth is, drop a needle anywhere on that vinyl and you hit a great song.

In the past 25 years or so, I think Magic as a whole is maybe his best studio, and Gypsy Biker is one of my two or three favorites on that album.

I tried to get 2IPAs to have ThunderRoad as our wedding song, but she would only agree to it as a second or third song

And you still went through with the wedding--wow.

I will have to check that one out--I sometimes feel that there is too much music I want to listen to and not enough time to get to it all.

last three added are Long Run, All the Girls Love Alice, and Behind that Locked Door.

Lyrics on Gypsy Biker:

Quote

The speculators made their money on the blood you shed
Your momma's pulled the sheets up off your bed
Profiteers on James Street sold your shoes and clothes
Ain't nobody talkin' because everybody knows
We pulled your cycle up back the garage and polished up the chrome*
Our gypsy biker coming home

Sister Mary sits with your colors, but Johnny's drunk and gone
This old town's been rousted, which side you on?
They would march up over the hill, this old fools parade
Shouting victory for the righteous for you must hear the grace
Ain't nobody talkin', but just waiting on the phone
Gypsy biker coming home

We rode into the foothills, Bobby brought the gasoline
We stood around the circle as she lit up the ravine
The spring hot desert wind rushed down on us all the way back home

To the dead, well it don't matter much 'bout who's wrong or right
You asked me that question, I didn't get it right
You slipped into your darkness, now all that remains
Is my love for you brother, life's still unchanged
To him that threw you away, you ain't nothing but gone
My gypsy biker's coming home

And now I'm out countin' white lines
Countin' white lines and getting stoned
My gypsy biker's coming home

La la la la

soundtrack to Dazed and Confused.  Nostalgia, even if I did not listen to Black Oak Arkansas, the Runaways, Nugent, or Skynyrd while I was in high school.
