100% is 100%    :)
Puerto Rico is also part of the "States" even though not a state.

So, if it gets hit by a hurricane, the hurricane doesn't hit a state.     Sounds like the objective/subjective thing goin' on.

The takeaway point is that Topper and the other meteorologists have no idea where it's going.

He didn't say he did.   He made an observation about things that have already occurred.    Slow day in Cincinnati?

Son is in Yellowstone. Some of the roads are closed due to snow. Mother Nature always surprises.

Was a beautiful weekend with the first snow of the season. Not ready for it, but winter's fast approaching.

Maria is heading west.  The Euro is putting it very close, if not into, the Delaware / NJ area on Wed-Thur of next week, it shows tropical force winds hitting OBX and Va Beach.

We are keeping our eyes open for daily changes.  Right now, the weather folks are calling for winds @ 20mph.  Wind looks to have more of an effect than flooding.

Looks like MathGuy needs to batten down his hatches.

Ok. Hopefully it steers out to sea faster than expected.

Are you among the 10,000 that have been ordered to evacuate?

!0,000 ???  Seems alot for how many I would expect in Hatteras.

But no - we aren't part of those who have been asked to evacuate.

At this point, the biggest issue with recovery efforts is a lack of infrastructure to deliver goods and a lack of manpower to move it. Tons of stuff is getting there. The problem is that none of the roads are capable of being utilized for transport and there simply aren't enough qualified people to move mass shipping containers right now.

I wonder if what may come out of this are the type of mutual aid agreements and co-operability you find in utility companies amongst shipping companies and dock workers.

They need fundamentals - power and roads.  Power makes so much else of the infrastructure work, like cell phones or hospitals.

In Texas and Florida the power companies had the resources to preposition hordes of out of state linemen. Puerto Rico’s power company is broke

The reason Puerto Rico's recovery is lacking is because no one gives a freak.

"It's an island."
"There's no infrastructure."
"They're in debt."
"Can't find drivers."

It's all smoke.    We could should have done better.   We got plenty of Marines and heavy lift assets at/near Lejeune.    Bunch of heavy lift helicopters.    There's the Navy all over Florida and the East Coast.     The 82nd and airlift capabilities in Carolina.    That's what they're good at.    We can move the whole damned 82nd anywhere in the world in less than 9 days.     We knew the hurricane was comin' and we say, "The infrastructure's broke, etc.?"     Pitiful

Sorry for the rant.

You have to get to the power to fix it. You think lineman are just gonna fast rope out of a helo to a sub-node?

Oh and actually the first priority is the preservation of life. Rescue efforts are still underway.

it's not only that, but where do you pre-position them? On a boat, 300 miles off the coast? You can't position your recovery assets in a storm zone.

No, you're bullcrap and you literally have no idea what you're talking about. There are actual issues  at play here that complicate any response and recovery efforts. Just getting there has been complicated. It's not about getting crap there. It's about getting it where it needs to go. Which is kind of a problem on an island that had crappy infrastructure to begin with and what there was has been obliterated by the force of several atomic bombs hitting it.

Whatever. It's not like this is part of my job or anything. It's not like I've written analysis of disaster recovery in the US for the last 40 years or anything.
