Maria is heading west.  The Euro is putting it very close, if not into, the Delaware / NJ area on Wed-Thur of next week, it shows tropical force winds hitting OBX and Va Beach.

We are keeping our eyes open for daily changes.  Right now, the weather folks are calling for winds @ 20mph.  Wind looks to have more of an effect than flooding.

At this point, the biggest issue with recovery efforts is a lack of infrastructure to deliver goods and a lack of manpower to move it. Tons of stuff is getting there. The problem is that none of the roads are capable of being utilized for transport and there simply aren't enough qualified people to move mass shipping containers right now.

I wonder if what may come out of this are the type of mutual aid agreements and co-operability you find in utility companies amongst shipping companies and dock workers.

It's all smoke.    We could should have done better.   We got plenty of Marines and heavy lift assets at/near Lejeune.    Bunch of heavy lift helicopters.    There's the Navy all over Florida and the East Coast.     The 82nd and airlift capabilities in Carolina.    That's what they're good at.    We can move the whole damned 82nd anywhere in the world in less than 9 days.     We knew the hurricane was comin' and we say, "The infrastructure's broke, etc.?"     Pitiful

You have to get to the power to fix it. You think lineman are just gonna fast rope out of a helo to a sub-node?

Oh and actually the first priority is the preservation of life. Rescue efforts are still underway.

it's not only that, but where do you pre-position them? On a boat, 300 miles off the coast? You can't position your recovery assets in a storm zone.

Just getting there has been complicated. It's not about getting crap there. It's about getting it where it needs to go.
