Dang. I was just thinking about whether she was still around, and what her health might be like. Type I diabetic and all.

RIP, Mary Tyler Moore, age 80.

Ordinary People (1980) was Mary Tyler Moore's career breakout from the personality of her other two famous roles as Laura Petrie on The Dick Van Dyke Show and Mary Richards on The Mary Tyler Moore Show. Moore's complex performance as a cold mother and wife obtained an Oscar nomination for Best Actress. She won the Best Actress Golden Globe for that role. The film won Academy awards for Best Picture, Best Director (Robert Redford's directing debut), Best Supporting Actor (Timothy Hutton's debut film), and Best Adapted Screenplay.

For anyone with Comcast/Xfinity, the Movieplex channel has 175 FREE movies On Demand. Ordinary People is available to watch on Movieplex On Demand until Feb 28, 2017. (I don't know if that's a free channel on other cable TV providers.)

Sad :( I remember me and my sisters watching her, Bob Newhart and then Carol Burnett on Saturday nights, we loved those stupid shows :(

I remember gettin' out of the Army and my sister was watchin' all kinds of "new" TV   ...   Newhart, MTM, All in the Family   ....   I didn't even know Laura and Rob had separated.

"Buck never would have been in the hospital!!!" oh she was terrific in that, one of those great "whoa..." movie scenes.

Man, I always thought Ed Asner looked really old when I was a kid watching this. He was probably 40.

There were so many great scenes in that movie that one couldn't get up to go to the rest room for fear of missing something.  i have to admit - I thought I was watching my mother.  But Mary was also playing the role of many mothers in the post WWII era

I can't believe how out of the mainstream I am on occasion.    I don't recall ever seeing a complete episode of any MTM TV show.    None that stick out at least nor have I seen any of her movie works.

I tune in to watch an hour of Mary ... and Oprah sticks her mug in front of the camera for 20 minutes or whatever it was.  Fortunately there was some college hoops to switch over to while she was bloviating but it still used up 20 minutes that could have been filled with funny old scenes.

Lol, Mary was apparently her idol, she surprised her on her show back in the day and Oprah cried, it was very sweet.

My parents used to watch it every week. Can't say I remember seeing too many episodes. I like watching the old Dick Van Dyke shows. She was very good in those.

Same here.  Even though I was in primary school, when Nick at Nite showed them, and I didn't understand everything that was going on I would watch her show religiously.

To this day this is my all time favorite opening credit:

Damn, Della Street died:

http://wtop.com/tv/2017/01/perry-mason-actress-barbara-hale-dies-at-94/

Wow.  All of a sudden it seems like there is a rash of deaths of old time stars.

And speaking of Perry Mason, Hamilton Burger had to be the most incompetent DA that ever graced our black and white screens ... and I never felt any sympathy for the guy.
