Yeah, last season was a killer especially. I think the first year just really was a fluke - it kind of all came together. He got a lot of calls he doesn't get anymore, so the free throw scoring is down. But his shot has just never returned to that freshman year level, and he hasn't gotten any better at taking care of the ball.

Love him, but his flaws at the next level are real and that makes me sad. He could be a Greivis-like fourth year guy who really takes his game to the next level and then makes a decent NBA career, but that's really a stretch.

Serious question  ...   give me some plus and minus to look for against Wisconsin in Melo's and the team's games.

I'm not well versed on Wisconsin, but for MD:

- Melo is usually strong in the 2nd half and late in the game, the strategy revolves around getting him to the free throw line
- If Dodd is in foul trouble, MD will struggle defensively and the post will be useless offensively (unless Cekovsky has a great game which could happen)
- Melo has been in a shooting slump for most of the year, but was awesome vs. NU. If he's hitting early, it's really dangerous for Wisconsin.

- Defensively, Cowan has struggled against bigger guards. Worth keeping an eye on because it killed MD vs. PSU.
- If the Terps get bench scoring - Nickens, Brantley, Wiley, Bender & Cekovsky - they are really tough to beat
- Once Huerter gets it going, he's going to be on fire all game pretty much. He contributes in every facet, but if he is scoring, the team is totally different. Can take over a game. If he's quiet, they usually are struggling on offense. He has not shot well recently so worth watching.

- The team has actually looked really tired - freshmen seem to be hitting a wall. Could mean they rely more on Melo to carry them, which means more shots from him, for better or for worse.

In the postgame interview Turgeon said they spread the floor more to create more space for Melo, which worked like a charm for at least that one game.  They do have weapons and sometimes random guys step up and kill it (Jackson!), and Dodd gives them a stout hunk of beef in the paint.

Sounds good to me; have Kentucky-Georgia on now.

Went to the Cincy-Tulsa game today.  Was close for about 15 minutes but then ended up a Cincy blowout.  Had my picture taken with the Big O--well his statue anyway!!

Is it a requirement for graduation?   I've been lax in my NCAAM's watching this year.     I watched a little of the Oregon/Colorado game today because my buddy from Boulder called.     My main game this weekend is going to be MD/WI tomorrow.     Lookin' at the sports listing (no Caps or Wiz), UVA/UNC may be in order.

Watchin' the game, it dawned on me that I haven't watched a Carolina/Virginia game in ages.

Probably been studying too hard; NC has all those fake classes.

UVA is slumping. Surprised VT could hang with Louisville with Chris Clarke out.

Maryland on now. Should have the home cooking advantage. At one time earlier tonight I counted that I had eight different games to watch. Fingers are sore from too much channel surfing.

Raftery sounds like he's on medication.

Seems like he should be doing the Big East and not the Big Ten.

Another humiliating game for Maryland. Limping into the tourney, again, and I'm expecting the selection committee to heavily penalize us for playing poorly the last 2 months. 8-10 seed at best (first round exit), and Turgeon has to pray he can coach well next year without the Melo safety net. For much of the season he was out-coached in-game.

Tonight was just another terrible performance in a 2nd half of the season has been defined by them. I love the freshmen but Turge has serious questions to answer heading into next season. A bunch of his recruits (Wiley, Nickens in particular) have not developed to even playable players.

Year 6 and we're being boatraced by Northwestern at home in the Big Ten tourney and non-competitive against any decent team.

They went up 10 and I figured they had figured it out.      Then NW goes on a 12-2 run.     I seriously don't know if MD is out coached or just over rated   ...   or both.     :smh:

No depth, Turge has no sense when to call a time-out, and our best player by far was Huerter, but he drew up zero plays for him in the second half. We're not overrated as a 3-seed in the B1G, that's about where we belong. But we did not play like it tonight, and have not played like it for most of the last 2 months. Teams have adjusted to us. Northwestern isn't really that good, tonight they were clearly better; our problem is we cannot put together a full 40-minute game. We deserve to be an 8-10 seed that is prime upset material.

It's not a well-coached team. Out of timeouts we rarely have a play that nets points. Can't get defensive stops for long stretches of time and every game is marred with 5-7 minute stretches without us making a field goal.

I almost did the same thing.    I watched some of the Wiz pre-game and turned back to MD to see if it was done.    I was surprised.
