Without free agent compensation it looks like the players walk out with a better deal- did they give on anything?

No Int'l draft or draft pick comps AND luxury tax going up -- sounds like the MLBPA totally won

Well. They didn't get a roster of 26 players.

New FA rules go into effect in 2017-18 per Morosi.

All Star Game no longer to determine the home field advantage for the World Series. Now it will be based on win/loss record.

That's better but not necessarily equitable either. They should just alternate.

There's never a totally equitable option. Best record is the best option.

Better deal for vets and FAs though. Fringe guys/young and cheap guys would've been fighting for that spot.

Personally not a fan of the new cap on intl signings. A draft would've been better for those kids than this.

How? They get to pick what team they go to and are likely to get more money than if they were drafted.

It could be the DR told MLB they wouldn't allow a draft.

It's a hard cap (from what I've read). Teams still like to cast a wide net, so that either means less money per player or else guys signed. Bad deal.

I've always found it odd that the general tendency in sports is to give more theoretical advantages to the team that already has the theoretical advantage.

I guess i look at it like that team earned that theoretical advantage.

Sure, it's more "fair", but I think most people would agree with the sentiment "I just want to see a good game/series," so I find it amusing that sports organizations typically work against their own best interests in such cases.

(extremely theoretical, obviously - I don't actually believe that HFA is that big of a deal)

the new CBA reclassifies the A's as a major market team. That ends a payment to the team that amounted to about $34 million last year.  The argument is that they will now finally be forced to find a new stadium or relocate.

Teams can trade their international signing pool still. Teams can add up to 75% of their bonus pool. Even then, $9M isn't much. The amateur age is also increasing to 25. Bad deal for the players.

I know.

Still, it's bad for the game. Hope there's at least a way to sign players to smaller, say > $100K, deals, while remaining outside of the pool. The bigger name guys are still gonna get theirs, but the Renny Lopez-type signings will diminish with a hard cap. An intl draft could've followed a structure similar to the current Rule 4 draft, where rounds 11 onwards aren't accounted for in the bonus pool.

They agreed to ban use of smokeless tobacco for future major leaguers. That should be interesting to enforce.
