Putting Ubaldo Jimenez in the game in that situation would be like a Nationals manager putting Gio Gonzalez into the game in a similar situation. Every team probably has a pitcher who is 50% or more likely to not be able to "handle the moment" and it is unfathomable to actually put that player in before it's like the 19th inning and he's the only one left in the bullpen.

In addition to Britton, they also had Tommy Hunter and Dylan Bundy to use before Ubaldo. Bundy could have gone multiple innings.

In any case, Ubaldo was supposedly on the roster as the long man in case Tillman went short. Well guess what? Tillman went short, and no Ubaldo. If you're not going to use him to start the 6th inning, I don't think you should use him until he's the last man in the bullpen.

"Ubaldo has been our 11th inning guy all season."

So...who's everyone rooting for tonight? I don't like the Mets, but I really want the Giants to lose to kill off any magic they have since this is an even year. I can just see a victory for them in this game giving them the spark they need to go all the way. I don't think either of them can beat the Cubs anyways, but who knows.

One question I have is in an AL game, why would you only carry 10 pitchers? He had 15 position players. Is that normal? Seems like I'd want as many options out of the pen as possible.

Gigantors.  A pox on anyone else in the NL East.

If you normally
<--- ,
toss in some PRs, plus have a long 1 game bullpen, maybe you can use the extra field guys to create matchups v. pitchers.  You aren't pulling pitchers for PHs, so guys go as long as they are effective.  10 is very short, but 11 is reasonable.

I probably go for extra arms, too, but I can see the other case.

I cant choose. Whoever has the best chance against the Cubs. Which is not much of a chance.

I wondered the same thing. Toronto also only carried 10 pitchers. Baltimore only pinch hit for one player (Kim, an obvious platoon player) - how many did they really plan to pinch hit for?

That's what that reminds me of, Matt Williams not using our good relievers in an elimination game.

We all could have debated how you use Britton in that game. But everyone on earth knows you USE BRITTON.

The Os lost because they only scored two runs. They're a club built around offense.

That was true of both teams for 10 innings.

Worse move? Davey pitching Edwin Jackson or showwalter not using Britton?

Maybe the hurricane takes an unexpected, super rapid turn to the northeast and sends them all over to Oz.
