I think moving AJ Cole to the pen would be very wise. He struggles the second and third times through the order, but his stuff is good enough to get through an inning or two.

Thornton is done. Worst part about Perez was that it was a multi-year deal.

He didn't have a great stint with the Padres but it's the Padres. He would have been cheap to retain and easy to cut bait with if he still broke down and Maddux couldn't fix him. Instead we have Perez (who many people said was a mistake at signing) among the players trotted out undeservingly because of his paychecks. Horrible move.

Let's not also forget part of this need for a lefty is because the Bald Genius felt slighted over Blevins winning in arbitration over $200k so he traded him to the Mets.
