Will Bryce ever get hot?
« Topic Start: July 17, 2016, 12:13:02 AM »
We have survived just fine offensively due to the outstanding play of Murphy, Ramos, etc and the unexpected play of Espinosa and the bench but you have the feeling to do anything in the play offs Harper will have to return to his lethal form of last year or somthing resembling it.

In fairness, I'd have said the same thing when he started slumping in middle May.

His miniature "hot streaks" since then would have been a bad week for him last season. Watching him the last couple months and I can't believe just a year ago he hit .330/.460/.649. If Harper over the second half could even OPS near .900 that would be huge. I don't doubt that Harper next season will be back to raking but this season is looking lost.

If Harper overnight were to get hot and start looking like the hitter last season the Nationals will win 100 games and be free to rest guys the last couple weeks of the season if they so choose because the Mets won't even be able to keep close.

I think we just saved ourselves 500 million dollars.  I can't see him ever getting locked in again.  Oh well, he had one really good season.  Looks like he'll be a slightly above average hitter with some pop and real good OBP.

Bryce is trying to do too much. I'm sure at some point, someone is going to say to him "just make contact" and help him work through his brokeness.
They have been giving the 2015 NL MVP too much rope. Probably were right up to the break.

IMHO, of course.

Above average? ....more like average. He keeps saying he feels great at the plate. I'm glad he feels so good, wish he would start producing.

If I'm the Nats and he finishes this year disastrously then I pray Boras is dumb enough to sign with his value low.

I think he'll bounce back next season but this season... Wow

The thing about being "dumb enough" is that an extension for him will definitely have an opt-out so even if we get him on the "cheap" for like $400 million now, if he's good again he'll just opt out when he's 28/29 and if he just sucks then we're on the hook for that entire contract. The risk is still completely on the team no matter what.

This has always bothered me...how is a "contract" a contract if there is an "opt-out" clause?

It may humiliate him but a prolonged benching may be in order.

It's gotten to the point where FP is now getting excited for balls that Bryce fouls off to the left and doesn't stumble of balance towards first.  "At least it was a good swing."  Really?  It's as if he is Nook Logan now and we are begging for good swings.
