Dude throws an amazing game, with the only run coming when Stanton gets ahold of one, and gets no run support. You know, no biggie, just another 7 innings one run performance.

Ace

Aces get wins.

Tanner's a bulldog. I feel like he's going to be the guy that wins the big Game 7 in October.

In relief? Because we know Max is gonna get that start.

Given off days figure scherzer in 1 & 4 and Roark in 2 & 5 in the nlds, with gio in 3.

Scherzer game 1, Roark game 2, Ross game 3 to close it out.   Strasburg, game 1, NLCS.

Maybe we see Strasburg return as a relief ace?

Two wins in his last eight starts. Not an ace

Your avatar had an awful lot to do with the last one.

If I was Tanner Roark, I would demand a trade.  This guy has been nothing but disrespected come playoff time when we keep sending out the wilting flower, Gio Gonzalez.

Gio's hot start to the season actually hurt us in the worst possible way.  Management appears totally incapable of realizing when someone is playing better than someone else.  Roark would have started, we're probably in the NLCS right now.

Last night stings, but we should remember that we were LUCKY to win game 2 when The Choker pitched like he always does in the playoffs.  Tanner should have started Game 2 and Game 5.  And if the offense showed up at all there wouldn't have been a game 5.

Iirc, Roark was pretty awful his last few starts.

Looked it up: 4.83 ERA in September.  He was a 4+ era last year in the playoffs. Can we stop pretending that not using Roark or starting him is the reason we lost?

As soon as we stop pretending that Gio belongs on a post-season roster.

Is Gio's vested contract for next year a player option?  If it is, then you may see him opt out.  Not much help for Tanner, though, as they would bring in a lefty represented by Boras who will be the #3.

I thought it was a team option that vested into a guaranteed deal. A vesting player option doesn't really make much sense, does it?

what I meant was was it something that locks the team in but the player can walk from, but looking at what I just wrote, that is almost indistinguishable from a player option. So is it really a player option that vested after a minimum number of innings?  Is that what they mean by "vested?"

Edit - quick check of Cot's describes it as a club option that became a guaranteed contract when he met his minimum innings.

Gio's 2018 contract vested once he went over 180 innings in 2017, we've got him at $12 million for 2018.

w00+!

It's funny, but the two teams I'd talk to would be Oakland and TB.  They might be willing to give us something back for a guy who could have a nice year during the first half and then get flipped for value.

Mr. Roark was not a happy camper last night. Who can blame him?

I wonder how Roark pitching in game 4 would have worked out.

It would have either saved me $300 in tickets and getting back to Richmond at 3:30 in the morning last night, or given us Strasburg in game 5.

Sounds like a win/win to me.
