Wow...both Patterson and Chief: heroes of 2005, showing uselessness in 2007.   :'(

Like Sens said, only more proof that 2005 was a fluke on a lot of levels.

cordero's problem in a nutshell is that he no longer has the ability to throw strikes. two years ago if a batter took a pitch it was a strike. no longer. its not fair to the starters to have him in a game with less than a 2 run lead.

This is why I urged NOTLD to keep Chad on his fantasy team.  Even though he blew the save and Hill's win, he got 7 wins last year - a LOT for any closer - BECAUSE he didn't finish it and we can still win.

Chief showed signs of vulnerability as far back as 2005 (second half of the season). I've given up on Chief.

Honestly, what can we do with Chad?  He certainly can't close so where can we use him?

I think whatever he had going for him back then...was figured out by the batters & scouts at the end of 05.  Ever since then he's been searching to find something new - and unfortunately hasn't had much success.

He really is all over the place - which stinks because I've always really, really liked him - when he was 12 of 13 saves last year I had high hopes that he was getting back to "2005 form" ... but he's struggled with his location so much this year - doesn't even look like the same pitcher ...

I know one thing - Boston's breathing a sigh of relief that Papelbon went back to being a closer.

Yeah no doubt.

I know it will be said that our offense does not provide wider margins, which is true, but that's his job.

WOW Church put a charge on that one. We have buzzard luck. In any other park that's a bomb.

Good news is that their BP is stretched thin. If we can extend this game we can still win it.

Isn't it reasonable to have him as a set up guy??? I like Big John to slide into the closer's slot - he's been light out ...
