We went to a Brewers game last summer in Milwaukee, and the food specialty of the house was something called "bratchos" - a popcorn bucket filled with kettle potato chips topped with sausage, cheese sauce, sour cream, jalapeños, and sauerkraut. We always try the house specialty when we visit other ballparks, so we gamely got them. Hubby and I split an order, and after that we were so disgustingly full that we skipped that night's dinner and the next day's breakfast - it was 22 hours before either one of us could even think of eating again. Yet we saw people downing those things. The good part about the game is that the Brewers actually beat the Cardinals that day - I thoroughly enjoyed that part!
I have family in Wisconsin so I've spent a lot of time there. The food culture, especially in the smaller towns and farming communities, is largely centered on cheese, fried food and fatty meats, and vegetables and salads are minimized. You really have to hunt on a restaurant menu to find something not cheesy, fried or meaty. There's an amazing amount of obesity there. Just in the past two years I've had two cousins who live there drop dead of heart attacks - both only in their early 50's and both morbidly obese. It's really sad. I'm no skinny Minnie - I'm packing a good 10 pounds I don't need, but out there I feel positively svelte.
