"Until next season?" I dunno.

Seems like he's been unwelcome wherever he goes (despite a few players sticking up for him), he doesn't have swing and miss stuff,Who he's lost velocity on his fastball, and he only wants to close.

His attitude wouldn't hurt him if he were performing, but he isn't.

Remember, Soriano was only 34 when he lost the closer job. He threw in only 6 games after leaving D.C.

Papelbon is already 35.

Meanwhile our bullpen needs help and we got rid of a guy who performed well anytime he wasn't thrown out there with no rest.

A guy so 'helpful' that no other team will touch him

Remember last week--a signing was imminent--BS rumor from his agent.   :hysterical:

Only the contenders would want him and none of them have bitten.
I tend to believe that. If any offers were made it would have been league minimum and supplemented  by whatever the Lerners and his agent agreed to on the remaining portion of his contract. So it couldn't be about money or his ego.

Serious question...if the Nats were to win the WS, would Slappy be entitled to a ring and a playoff share?

I think it's a player vote

Pretty sure he gets the ring regardless. My understanding was any player on the 25 man at any point during the season the team won the WS gets a ring. Don't know about the playoff share as I've never heard of it.

LAC and they would not send him a ring.

Uggla got one in 2014.

For 4 playing games before being DFAed.  I wonder if the ring is on eBay yet?

I think in Boston they were surprised that Koji's recovering and may come back.  They have a real problem with Tazawa now, but Ziegler / Barnes / Kimbrel gives them some nice late options, and Robby Ross is looking effective as a lefty.  It comes down to Hembree, who is cheap and has been effective, or Paps as the 4th righty.

The fact that he's still unsigned makes that "source" (his agent's) statement that he was making a decision within 24 hours look an awful lot like a "someone please offer him a contract" than anything based in any reality that exists outside of Papelbon and his agent's heads.

This is all I see. Sounds like his agent floated soemthing to the media about an imminent signing in order to peak interest.

That's what I said a while back.

He's in a low leverage situation, and that is his least favourite kind of situation.
