I hope the Yankees continue to suck and we deal for Miller.

Would LOVE this, but aren't the Yankees doing much now?

Yes, but still have a big hole to climb out of. It's possible they sell if they can't get put together an extended period of good play.

I don't care who it is, I don't want Rizzo to acquire a closer ever again.  Each time he does a little more damage.

Summarized:  Papelbon can feel himself getting old, finally realizes that he's not going to catch Rivera, and therefore wants to move the goalposts that he (and only he) thought were remotely plausible from the start.

Welcome back to earth, turd.

Person in the waning years of their career starting to appreciate what's really important is such a bad thing now?
Nothing he says is ever going to be right for this fan base.

Actually, it's the fans that are delusional

Getting one thing right after being a delusional arsehole for a decade doesn't suddenly make that decade disappear.  I have no problem with what he said now, it's just that he's a decade and a half late or so for the maturity train.  Hopefully this signals adaptation to reality on the mound as well - if so, that's a very good thing for him and for the team, and I applaud him for acceding to reality and actually adjusting his approach, as it seems he's doing.

Could be more a function of the manager than his coming to a realization

We can't expect perfection from a closer (or any player) all the time.  For example, when was the last time a MLB player hit over .500 ?

I certainly don't expect any player to be perfect. Papelbon was crap out of luck with some of the fanbase because their minds were already made up about him when he arrived. They hate him because something about him makes them uncomfortable. He doesn't fit their vision of an MLB player so you're right about that Mathguy. They are delusional.

When he got here last season and even at the start of this season he was insisting that his goal was to catch Rivera's record. :lmao: That goal was, in my mind, delusional because he had over 300 saves to go and at his age he is already well into his decline.

When he passes Cordero he'll be the career saves leader for three different franchises.

Best solution is to keep winning games by 4+ runs so Paps doesn't have an opportunity to blow them  :hysterical:

We shouldn't wait until he blows an arbitrary number of games to make a move at closer. If the team has playoff aspirations it can and needs to do better than Papelbon.

Rizzo has wanted Chapman for a very long time. He finally would get the Cuban Missle after all these years and he gets to re-unite him with his old manager. I wouldn't be surprised if they dealt for Chapman and he signs an extension to play for Dusty and anchor the back end of the pen while guys like Strasburg are still pitching out front.
