We can't expect perfection from a closer (or any player) all the time. For example, when was the last time a MLB player hit over .500 ?
I certainly don't expect any player to be perfect. Papelbon was crap out of luck with some of the fanbase because their minds were already made up about him when he arrived. They hate him because something about him makes them uncomfortable. He doesn't fit their vision of an MLB player so you're right about that Mathguy.

When he got here last season and even at the start of this season he was insisting that his goal was to catch Rivera's record.
That goal was, in my mind, delusional because he had over 300 saves to go and at his age he is already well into his decline.
