I see Papelbon cooling off as he tries to exhibit normal MLB player behavior

Gotta give credit where credit is due, Papelbon looks like a professional closer out there - unfazed, focused, and not easily rattled even if he makes a mistake. Storen had better stuff at his peak, but I don't think we've ever had a closer like Papelbon.

He doesn't have the stuff he used to but throws strikes. There will be hits and runs and some blown saves but at least we don't have to see the nibbling and walks.

I agree. I know I'm unrealistic but my expectation is a closer needs to have a clean inning every time out. Very low 90's doesn't cut it for me and he doesn't have a strike out pitch. I do not believe he will be the closer at the end of the summer as I think Treinen or Rivero will. He is very "Sorianoesque". He was not overly impressive after we acquired him.

Yeah I keep waiting for the Untuck action.
My expectations are more that Dusty will keep him on a very short leash. If he has another incident, I think he needs to ride the pine or go play elsewhere. Not just Choke-the-MVP scale incidents. If he gets booted from a game for throwing at someone's head (again) or is seriously antagonistic to the fans, etc.

You get it. I also think they might trade for a closer at the deadline if he starts to suck earlier and they don't trust the young guys.

Paps has been ridden hard already this year. 4 saves in 6 games, including the night before. It is a marathon not a sprint. Last night was a great example of bullpen depth. Nice to see Kelley effective again. That man is a horse.
