The backend of this rotation will show the importance of re-signing Strasburg in the offseason.
I really wish they had kept J. Zimmermann  :(

No it doesn't. Giolito replaces Stras. Stras, if he stays healthy, gets paid elsewhere. Nats go back to offering pillow contracts to SPs. That's good business/smart baseball. Not smart to overpay for Stras.

I don't get this, why then did we overpay for Scherzer?

It wasn't a smart signing. We like it, and it feels nice for fans, but it wasn't. Stras is even more risky a signing, IMO. The FO has some thoughts about TJS/longevity, and they are probably right.

ah ok, I just would like to see them invest in guys who've been with us the whole time, you know?

Weather looks weird.  It's not raining much at all where I am in NW.

Charlie and Dave said it wasn't raining much now at the park but apparently there's another cell right behind it with much heavier rain.

Zimm was the first guy to get a $100M contract post-TJS. We'll see. I don't see it being a trend, but if everyone's getting em, maybe. Stras could approach the levels of the top FAs from this prior offseason. I don't think that's a wise move. Just my opinion. I plan on picking up Jeff Passan's book 'The Arm' too, which talks a bit more about TJS. Here's a cool Q&A he did the other day: http://deadspin.com/im-jeff-passan-and-i-wrote-the-book-on-pitching-arms-g-1769131143

Definitely looks like there will be pockets, but this front looks to be dropping some bucket fulls

I don't remember where I read it but I think it said that the nats officials think that TJ pitchers only get eight good years post surgery. Anything longer than that is a risk.

Yup -- it's probably more based around age/IP, but who knows.

Remember guys, Tanner Roark is just as good as Mad Scherzer because he had a season with more wins.

About to start, Roark back in, which is kind of surprising.

I hope Petit's ready and Dusty isn't afraid of a quick hook.

RIP Roark.

Well his arm might fall off after trying to spin him back up again. The Nats hate Roark.

Dusty Baker with another stellar decision regarding the health of his pitchers.
