Is he profiling to stay at 3B or nah?
He's seen at 3B.

Nats are in the midst of laying out the 850-1000 member draft board. Some are finished, e.g., Cleveland.

When you get down to, say, player number #350, does the specific order really mean anything or are they hoping to grab any guy in a range of 30+ guys with a pick? Like if player #471 and player #472 are still on the board, is the order decisive?

Some clubs will use it as a map: whoever is next is selected. Others will use it as a tool to go along with gut, debate, etc.

FYI: Jim Callis (Oakton HS grad) took another crack at the 2011 draft. See it here: http://m.mlb.com/news/article/182532366/fernandez-a-pirate-redrafting-the-2011-picks

1) Nats did well in their selection!
2) Overall, it's still a guessing game. Eventually predictive analytics combined with genome mapping will be successfully applied to the crapshoot known as the draft, but until then, it's fodder for banter.

When it gets to that point...I would guess they are looking at best player available less than best player available at certain positions.

This reminds me, are there any theories on why Jon Singleton was a bust?

Delvin Perez. I doubt he falls, even with the failed test (unless it really is PEDs). He's a great prospect. http://m.mlb.com/news/article/161884298/delvin-perez-an-elite-puerto-rican-ss-prospect

MLB Trade Rumors says "undisclosed performance enhancer."  So, not weed.

Yeah, just saw that update. I wonder if the MLB has a similar drug policy as the NFL, where a player enters the drug policy from the get-go?

Quote
11:08pm: Perez tested positive for “an undisclosed performance enhancer,” according to John Manuel and J.J. Cooper of Baseball America. Cooper and Manuel cite conversations with “multiple decision makers” in adding that there’s an expectation that he’ll still go in the first round to a team that gets approval from ownership, as his talent will be deemed too enticing to pass up.

Cooper and Manuel also report that University of Kentucky infielder JaVon Shelby tested positive for Adderall, which is considered a performance enhancer despite its common usage as a treatment for ADHD. Shelby isn’t as highly regarded as Perez, though he did rate 260th in BA’s compilation of the top 500 prospects in this year’s draft class.

At the bottom of the BA article: "In the past, righthanders Jon Gray and Aaron Blair tested positive for Adderall before the 2013 draft. Phil Bickford tested positive for marijuana before the 2015 draft. In those three cases, the positive tests did not appear to significantly affect their draft stock. Because the tests are administered before the draft when the players are not professionals, they have not carried any post-signing penalties for the players."

Thanks Joe, guess they get a free pass for the early transgression.  Maybe even a benefit - see if your dosing regimen passes the tests or not without having any more downside than the PR.

I think Delvin is a no brainer if he's there with the Nats pick. I just don't think he will be, even with a PED pop.

Yeah, thanks for sharing. Interesting. The MLBPA really is something!

If it could make you a top-5 draft pick, from say something like a low-first or second, that's $4-5M to be had.

Do we want a separate thread for the draft talk tomorrow, or simply a rename of this thread? Hope I'm able to catch the MLBN broadcast tomorrow!

I want 2 power bats in the first (hoping for 2 out of Rizzo, benson, and kieboom) and upside arms in the second-5th (Dalton feeney or Charles king ideally)
