Got a bolognese sauce going in the slow cooker. No idea how it'll turn out. Leftover stroganoff for lunch sure was good.

Made a BLT and egg sandwich with mayo on white toast.  Fried the egg in the bacon grease.

I'm not telling my cardiologist about this...

Cool, what did you buy, Lodge?

I've got an outdoors one (with legs on the bottom) I use on rare occasions, and we have an old one in the basement for indoor use that needs to be resuscitated from decades of disuse.

I've seen some really cool things cooked in a dutch oven, and some things you'd expect like Boy Scout camp grub.  Pineapple upside down cake!  Lasagna!

Years ago we had a guide on a sea kayaking trip in the San Juan Islands (Washington state) and he did the Lasagna for our dinner - counted out exactly 13 briquets and assembled the lasagna.  When the briquets were ready, he put 7 on the lid and 6 underneath, and we went off exploring the island for a couple of hours.  I had never seen this before, and was astonished that it came out perfectly.  Those briquets looked so inadequate for the task.

Yeah lodge. Already have the skillet. A little bit of a learning curve but now I like it. Might need to get another one

Made a great dinner tonight with Tilefish and smoked paprika butter.  Just mix 1/4 cup butter with 1 TBLS smoked paprika and a pinch of sea salt.  Melt butter and stir in paprika and salt.  Then brush butter on both sides of fish and pan fry.  Any white fish would do with this recipe.

Does fish contaminate a cast iron pan with fish taste

I would say no as long as it's already seasoned. (I wouldn't have it be the first thing I cooked in it.)

I'm basing this off a lodge grill grate that we use on the grill.  We've cooked fish on it and the flavor doesn't show up in other things.

Maybe a strange question but   ....   how do you re-heat filet mignon to keep it's best quality  ....  tenderness?

Wrap it in foil with some butter and pop it in the oven around 350*. Don't leave it in for longer than absolutely needed.

If the potato isn't overcooked and mushy, you can make a quick hash. Melt some butter (or fry up a slice of bacon and use the fat), dice up a quarter of an onion and brown it , you can add in some bell pepper or mushrooms if you'd like; dice the potato and filet, add them in, and stir frequently till warm, then stop stirring and let the potato brown and make a crust. Turn/stir , repeat. You're not really trying to  make a solid thing like a pancake. Just trying to get more surface area crusted if that makes sense.

You might need to add more milk or a little butter depending on how much potato and how well done it was. Liberal amounts of black pepper. Salt to taste. Bonus points if you throw a fried egg on top ( even for dinner!).

Not sure who mentioned Instant Pot on here first, but I got one for my wife as a present and we're both loving it.  Any suggestions on things to watch out for or possible problems?  So far we've tried a number of recipes and have been really impressed with the results.  Have only tried the saute, stew and chicken settings so far - no steaming yet.

Florida grocery chain, Publix, is coming to the Fashionable West End of Henrico County.  They should give Wegmans a run for their money.  All of my girls are ecstatic.

I went to Publix for the first time and didn't really get the hype.  Couldn't stack up to Wegmans.

Ya gotta be a Floridian...  ;)

They make really great cookies too.  Regardless, they will draw their share of business from our Wegmans...which hasn't even opened yet.  Martins has to be all  :panic:

Publix sammiches are the BEST. It is like the only thing I miss about when my husband still lived in Florida and I'd spend entire weeks at his apartment. Wegmans wins on everything else though.

PS wegmans is rumored to be coming to the Walter Reed site when it is redeveloped. Can't wait!!!!!

Publix is really Florida's form of a Giant supermarket.
