I bet it was...

When we lived in Hawaii, my wife bought tickets to the last round of the Hawaiian Open every year for her father.  I went with them the year Aoki holed out from the 18th fairway to win in '83.  He took his shot from no more than 15 yards directly in front of us.

Brother-in-law and I had two conclusions:   1) They're good and 2) the course is more difficult in person than seeing it on TV.    Oakmont is a great venue.    I went to the '97 Open at Congressional with a media pass.   We spent Friday with the "unwashed masses" at Oakmont.    Since most of 'em were Western PA folks, I was among my element.    No more than three of us were allowed to be together at any one time.   ;)      The public areas of the course were really muddy but the course itself was well maintained for the players.   I could easily post a 100 at Oakmont  ....  and then play the back nine.    :)     Saturday, we played at a local public course and the reality of golf hit home.    I stink.   She's a cruel mistress.

The great thing about the 3 limit is par is the highest I ever score on a hole (that's the par 3's  :) ).   Everything else is birdies and eagles.

My guess is Boz is a regular 3 putter:

https://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/golf/the-pga-tour-is-a-circus-and-this-week-it-comes-to-congressional/2016/06/23/0c931b0a-3947-11e6-8f7c-d4c723a2becb_story.html#comments

Boz prefers baseball games where he can sit in the press box, eating catered food, watching Harper and all the action from one seat.   Where as, golf?   He'd have to get off his ass and walk through the mud of Oakmont to maybe get a glimpse of one of the prime contenders.    Heaven forbid, he'd probably get mud on his $300 penny loafers.    I also bet Boz doesn't get further than 50 yards from the Congressional club house and merchandise tents.

Venting is done and yes, I do love baseball too.   :)

Good 2 1/2 hours of The Open.    Still have time for a power nap before my tee time.    :)

I watched the first 15 minutes or so last night. Colin Montgomerie ended up in one of those bunkers on the first and couldn't get out the first time. Then he he went out backwards the next shot. Brutal.

Montgomerie was 3 under for awhile and then reality set in.    I went golfin', got home and find out Phil shot a 63.        Wait 'til the weather kicks up tomorrow/weekend.    It'll be fun then.

Watching the replay now.  Great round by Phil.  Calm today, but when the wind whips up it will definitely shake things up .

The weather (mostly rain) has arrived but it doesn't seem to have slowed the boys down much, so far.

Pretty impressive two rounds by Phil.

BTW, when did everyone on TV start calling it the Open Championship instead of the British Open--I know when I was a kid it was always the latter.

PC run amok.    :couch:       The Brits prefer The Open because it's the oldest.    It allows them to feel "superior".     Also, NBC is payin' a lot of money so they wanna keep the R & A happy.    It's like CBS and The Masters  ...   Gary McCord's dismissal  ...  "patrons"   ..    and all that.

Weather bearing its teeth today.  Makes me laugh to see people in the gallery wearing coats and scarfs in the middle of July.  Meanwhile, I've got the thermostat set at 75 and the AC unit is running pretty much non-stop.

Incredible round by Stenson.  I was pulling for Phil, who also played an amazing round, but I tip my hat to the Swede.  Congrats!

Missus and I were to go see my niece and a new family member.    I kept asking her to wait a minute.     Stenson made that long putt and it was like he pulled out the dagger on Phil.    When Phil went off the green (17?), I told the missus, "That's it.   Let's go."     Stenson hung tough when a lot of folks (including NBC) thought he'd wilt.     Well played sir.
