I read Ali's quote earlier and immediately thought "hope the heat isn't on where he is!" then I felt bad for making a joke, but then I thought I hope he's got a peaceful easy feeling now, and also there's going to be a lot heartache tonight and now reading the additional quotes man it dawned on me-this guys was SO talented and so prolific, what a testament to him that so many of his songs come to mind upon hearing of his passing. Rest easy, Glenn.

So, I grew up in Thailand in the 70s, and you could not turn around without hearing the Eagles...every public establishment (at least those with a farang or two) seemed to be playing Hotel California or Take it Easy. My parents often went to Burma and Laos around then, and same thing - Eagles. On the Thai/Cambodian border when the Vietnamese drove out the Khmer Rouge and my mum was seeing bodies float by...Already Gone. If it wasn't a bootleg tape of the Eagles it was a bootleg tape of a Filipino Eagles cover band. It was the Age of the Eagles. Big part of my life soundtrack I guess.

I went into a restaurant in Thailand a few years ago and there was some trad Thai music playing that immediately switched over to Hotel California the second I walked in. I think people in SE Asia figure we just ride around on burros shooting varmints off of saguaros.

Alan Rickman was amazing.

Two of Alan Rickman films are on TV this Friday January 22:
Galaxy Quest (1999), SyFy channel 6:30 pm
Sense and Sensibility (1995), TCM (Turner Classic Movies) 10:00 pm

Rickman died of pancreatic cancer on 14 January 2016 at the age of 69. My uncle died of pancreatic cancer in his early 50s, a deadly disease.

Rickman's final film part, as the voice of Absolem in Alice Through the Looking Glass, will be released in May 2016.

In the movie, Jerry Maguire, Glenn Frey played the frugal general manager of the Arizona Cardinals football team.

I heard that in the early years, the members of the Eagles would sit in the audience before concerts. Few fans knew what they looked like.

oh wow I'd totally forgotten that, I think he also was on a couple of episodes of Miami Vice back in the day and he wasn't terrible.

Guess it isn't time to post Mojo Nixon's anti-tribute, but that was also one of the first songs to pop into my mind.

Really interesting watching Sanjay Gupta last night explaining Frey's conditions. Rheumatoid arthritis is an autoimmune disease that typically attacks joints but can also attacks areas around the heart. He also had ulcerative colitis, another condition that I think is autoimmune related. Basically, his body was attacking itself. The way to deal with it is some immunity-depressants, which can lead to infections, which led to pneumonia, which was I think the immediate cause.

By the way, the Eagles double Live album had a picture of their 6/14/80 concert at the Yale Bowl. Nice set list.

Since you mentioned it, I have. We left Albuquerque, NM after the 1983 Final Four and headed toward Vegas. It was windy as hell with some snow. There was a high vehicle/high wind advisory for I40 West. There were six of us in a smallish motor home. We went anyway. It was early (pre-dawn) when we hit Winslow. I was driving and our buddy from New Brunswick was shotgun. We stopped at some non-descript street and enjoyed the view. The others frumped around from their snoozes and wanted to know what we were doing. We told 'em, "Gettin' gas." Guess what we had in the cassette deck?

Watching "History of the Eagles" on Netflix ... opens in Washington, DC in 1977 (appears to be the Cap Centre). Concert opens with "Take It Easy" ....
