0 centigrade, i didn't realize the site i was looking at was metric.

Are they measuring the snow in centimeters rather than inches?

Looks like the fashionable West End/Henrico may get 30 inches.    Don't worry about centimeters.

The last time DC got dumped on, we got a dusting.  Still, the schools stayed closed for a week...

Being from Chicago...it's all good...

I expect the schools to close soon.    I think Loudoun had a two hour delay today.    Practice, I guess.     Serious question, did you ever get a snow day from school?

I don't honestly remember one.  We had a 36" snow over a weekend in '66, I think, and the streets were cleared almost as fast as it fell...

Seems like we ask this question every year but I don't remember one either.     Checking the "news", it appears today's 2 hour delay was due to the cold.

That snowstorm in Chicago I mentioned was 49 years ago!  Seems like yesterday...  ;)

blizzard of '78 was the first time Yale ever closed for snow, and my American history professor still held class.  I got burned over that assignment and ended up with my worst grade of my college transcript.

Oh, since I mentioned Yale:

We lived in Chicago for four years and never once was school closed due to snow which really impressed me, but the winter of I think 95 it was closed for three days straight when it was like -10 out without factoring in the wind chill, it seriously hurt to be outside!

I grew up 30 minutes south of Great Lakes...we played Waukegan in football.  They were the only HS in the league with lights (1969) for night games.  And yes...it does get cold...

Latest models are all still in agreement with an epic snowstorm dumping up to 40" across much of va from Richmond to prince William county.  Snow from Friday into Sunday.

here's the latest GFS, the grey blob is 40"+

I'm seeing crushed mall roofs down in Potomac Mills if they get anywhere near that amount.

Heck, that map even shows snow in a county in northern Florida.  Is that Pensacola or is it the next bay over?

If you get 40" get ready for a serious anus smashing.  It looks like it'll get warm enough for most of it to start melting but if the lows are below the forecast get ready for some seriously bad ice.

JCA - that's probably rain in the blue

JCA - that's probably rain in the blue

perhaps, but a widespread area of 1 - 2" of rain would be a tremendous amount of water in the atmosphere, and the gradations in the map seem to go from 3 shades of blue to purple to red to orange to brown in small increments.
