WXrisk says there's a growing threat of an east coast winter storm January 17-19. Still way too early to say for sure, but the GFS and Euro are in agreement that something could be a brewing...
Wimps.
Hardly. MDS - you live in an area where snow is understood and the population knows how to deal with it. DC area is another story - where it's not the snow, but people's reactions that are a disaster.
The unintentional hilarity in this is comedy gold. Bravo.
having driven on snow in places that know how to handle it and the DC area, the difference is as it is the roads being just warm enough to melt a little then re-freeze giving you that wonderful ice layer that you don't find further north as it is bad drivers. Toss in no one here having snow tires (which makes sense if you only need them once a year) and you get a crap show
I just find it hilarious that the most overeducated and over concerned WONK world would be a crap show when it snows.
Could be the Northeast imports here causing the problems. http://www.propertycasualty360.com/2015/01/21/the-10-most-dangerous-us-cities-for-winter-weather
For the first time this winter, one of our blue chip weather models, the American GFS, is uncorking a snowstorm for the D.C. area just five days into the future. But before you run out to the grocery store, consider it is an outlier, unsupported by forecasts from the European and Canadian models.
