NBC4 just said OPM is meetin' at 9 PM to decide what to do.      :smh:
They're gonna flip a coin. But first they have to decide if it doesn't rotate if it's considered an official flip. That is likely to take all weekend.

Give 'em a supply of Flint, MI water to get through the weekend.    I'm bettin' they'd be done early.

From the Auto Show:

Given the District of Columbia's recently declared state of emergency due to heavy snow in the forecast, and the related closing of the Walter E. Washington Convention Center, commencing Friday, January 22 and running through Sunday, January 24, The Washington Auto Show will not open to the public as originally scheduled. Instead, The Auto Show will open on Monday, January 25 at noon. All discounts and activities remain as scheduled through Sunday, January 31. This decision was made in the best interest and safety of our guests and staff.

All scheduled Auto Show events tonight, Thursday, January 21, are going forward as planned.

Final nail in the coffin for my fantasy of heading down Sunday afternoon to beat the crowds.  Now, I can look forward to twice the normal weekend crowd next weekend.  Great.

By snow machine, do you mean that in the Alaskan sense or in the American sense?

makes some sense.  hoping metro can handle the noon rush.  3.5 hours of work.

Makes no sense to me.  Foolish micro-management...

I used to ALWAYS close the office in these cases ...had some folks on call if I or the home office had questions.  Error on the side of safety and security.

It is designed to be a pain in the butt for anyone who does not have a telework agreement in place.  They have been pushing feds to sign up for telework so that the offices can stay operational during weather emergencies.  Only problem is, it is contrary to most of the labor agreements with the unions and the law I believe is written with a presumption that work is limited to hours the office is open.  I know of an agency that tells its employees that they "should" have telework agreements in place prior to storms and be telework ready if the office is closed.

The idea of leave 4 hours early is hysterical.  how many workers have arrangements where they can leave before 4 PM, even on a friday?  Folks whose scheduled hours run later will be working < 1/2 day.  This is going to be a Charlie Foxtrot at noon tomorrow.

Love that OPM comes up with the out by noon call at 10:45 PM and then all the runs come in saying snow starting by 10 AM south of DC and by noon here.  Thanks Snowbama!

You nailed it on the head. This comes out of all the flack they took back in 2010 on how much money was wasted when the government was closed. Instead of taking the flack they decided to pretend that it never shuts down since we have telework. Opening for four hours before a storm is stupid and I am sure the roads and metro will suffer. Do they really think anyone will be working during those four hours?

Yep. It's stupid. Best thing is to have some telework agreement in place and pretend you are working at home rather than trekking to the office to pretend you are working there. Glad I don't have to put up with this nonsense anymore.
