I wish I was 55...
And Harper wishes he had his ring. So we all wish for something.

Our middle infield of Rendon Espinosa Phillips is a magnitude of order better than Escobar Desmond Rendon.  Advanced stats way devalue defense and if those guys all stay healthy and hit like they can then everything improves next year.

Turner in the wings if any of the if suck or get hurt.  I like it.

Advanced stats do not devalue defense.

Interesting to note that folks were upset at not getting Zobrist and he's the same age as Phillips and their numbers weren't that far off last year. Phillips doesn't have the same versatility but he is still a very solid player.

Won't have to commit to him for as long, either.

Trade agreement between #Reds and #Nationals apparently is in place. Talks with Phillips continue, sources say.

When exactly did they tweet that before BP did?
Paying $27M for a league average player is bad enough, are we going to have too pay extra get him to come from a crap bag team to a contender?

I would not give him another freaking dime. He wants to stay in Cincy let him.

From Bob Nightengale again....

Many significant issues still unresolved before Brandon Phillips trade is complete: Just bought home in Cincy and his family loves community

Bottom line: Brandon Phillips @DatDudeBP absolutely loves Cincinnati and the #Reds organization and city loves him back.

Yep, I'm really psyched for him for some reason.  We needed some new blood and now we've got it.

Then why the "I'm leaving Cincy area code coming to DC area code" tweet?

He'll have a nice new ring or two to wear when he returns home in a couple years.

I won't be excited until I see the return but he was the #8 ranked 2B in 2015. He's above average for his position.

To talk to Dusty & Rizzo and to get something extra out of them. If he's not happy he might stay in Cincy. Who knows?

So ... We're,going to pay 30 freaking million for a guy who was worth 0.2 more WAR than Danny Espinosa last year?

Out of 20 qualified players. The average WAR was 2.45. Phillips was 2.6.

If there are only 20 qualified guys that tells the crap that is out there at 2B. I'll take The #8 2B as long as we didn't give up a big time prospect.

If Danny could actually have a WAR In the mid 2's for several years straight he would get 27M on the open market easily. Problem is he's never done that.

It means he's average. It means we're paying a crap ton of money and hoping to get Yunel Escobar's performance.

It probably depends on what you consider a big time prospect. Is it top 10 rated in the organization? Ive read that there about 5 prospects that Rizzo said would be very hard to part with. I highly doubt any of those guys would be involved in acquiring a guy like Philips with 27 million owed and a full no trade clause.

BP was worth 0.5 WAR more than Yunel was last year. They project going forward to be about equal, but Yunel's contract was a bargain while BP's is pretty much fair.

Basically, that extra money buys Trevor Gott from the Angels.
