For his salary and another $7MM.  Pretty expensive arm.

Do we know the terms yet?

Talk Nats had reported the trade "done in principal" even before Phillips Tweeted. Sounds like the deal is pending a physical. No word on what Nats are giving up.

From Ken Rosenthal.

Trade agreement between #Reds and #Nationals apparently is in place. Talks with Phillips continue, sources say.

Phillips signed extension with #Reds, accepted deferrals, chose to live year-round in CIN. Will require financial adjustment to OK deal.

The COLA bump from Cincy to DC will be good for BP

Brandon Phillips has "no trade" clause which could be the hang-up. It appears he must agree. Trade in principle is between the teams.

http://www.foxsports.com/mlb/story/washington-nationals-cincinnati-reds-brandon-phillips-trade-talks-dusty-baker-121515

For the deal to happen, however, the Nationals would need to persuade Phillips to waive his full no-trade protection as a player with 10 years of major-league service, five consecutive with the same club.

Phillips, 34, is owed $13 million in 2016 and $14 million in ’17 in the final two years of a contract that he signed in April 2012. The market since has inflated, and it is standard for players who waive no-trade rights to receive an added benefit, generally through an extension or salary increase.

The Nationals should be in a flexible position financially — they recently offered free-agent outfielder Jason Heyward $200 million over an undisclosed number of years, sources said. Heyward signed an eight-year, $184 million contract with the Cubs.

The Reds, who are actively trying to rebuild, likely would receive prospects for Phillips, sources said. Third baseman Todd Frazier, closer Aroldis Chapman and right fielder Jay Bruce are among the other veterans that the Reds are trying to move.

Phillips last season appeared in 148 games for the Reds, batting .294 with 12 homers, a .723 OPS and 23 stolen bases in 26 attempts. Baker was his manager with the Reds from 2008 to ’13.

Phillips is an aging player moving from a team entering a rebuilding phase to a contender, his agent will angle for more money and years but in the end he clearly wants to be here reunited with Dusty.

Reds fans on Twitter are pissed and they have no idea what they are getting.

Why? He has no function on that team anymore and it frees up room for Suarez and Peraza.

Judging by his tweet I'm gonna say that convincing him either already happened it won't be that hard. He seems rather excited.

My read too, he'd be an idiot to tweet that before knowing it was a done deal.

When exactly did they tweet that before BP did?

They've been posting updates in their last blog post:

The #Dbacks tried to land #Reds Phillips but could never get to point to ask permission to waive no trade

If Brandon Phillips accepts #Nats trade, it will be almost solely for opportunity to be reunited with Dusty Baker

A few thoughts:
I'm sure Philips is headed to DC to see if he wants to waive his no trade clause, he may just want to extend his no trade clause with us or want more money.

Reds just got their future second baseman Peraza in the Frazier deal, hopefully given the fact that Peraza is ready and Philips is owed 27 million and can veto any trade it keeps the return(prospects) low.

Although he's 34(35 in June) he's still been a top 3 defensive second baseman in the NL.

Look up his 2015 stats vs Heyward they are almost identical.

Dusty having a veteran player that he's coached and likes in our clubhouse may help the team buy-in to the changes that will be made.

The fans loved him and apparently he's a great personality for reporters.

I view him as an upgrade even if he isn't our long term future second baseman, he is a guy that can help us for a couple seasons.

So we got a 35 year old who walked even less last year than he normally does. I suppose we needed another free swinger to replace Desi.

He doesn't take a lot of walks but his K% was 10.9 last years compared to Desi's 29%. Phillips at least puts balls in play and advances guys.

He had a very solid season as a 34 year old. Hopefully he's got 1-2 more years left in him.

Ok ok. I'm skeptical but no choice but to welcome him if he comes. I know he has been one of the better second baseman the last several years but 35 is 35. Got the feeling that Dusty loves the old guys which means when Werth is hitting .200 in June he will still be in the lineup everyday.

That is completely ignoring the poor defense that Escobar provided and that he hit 60 points higher than he had in the previous 3 seasons. I think we would've all been talking about his progression if he had stayed here. He had a career year offensively.
Our middle infield of Rendon Espinosa Phillips is a magnitude of order better than Escobar Desmond Rendon.  Advanced stats way devalue defense and if those guys all stay healthy and hit like they can then everything improves next year.

Turner in the wings if any of the if suck or get hurt.  I like it.
