So Chase Utley is gonna be LA's second baseman going into the season with Micah Johnson as the potential guy of the future? Huh. I dunno why they'd trade Peraza.

Seems dumb to me, but they must really like Montas.

So Peraza has been traded twice in one year in two baffling deals. I don't know why Atlanta traded him for Hector Olivera to begin with and I don't get why Los Angeles traded him just now.

They got a good pitcher out of it.  Frankie Montas will probably start in the rotation from Day 1.

I guess this could go here: Smoltz is jumping in the big FOX booth, taking the place of Reynolds and Verducci.

I think I'm the only person in the world who liked Reynolds :(  I can't say I can recall much about Smoltz as a broadcaster which leads me to believe he'll be as boring as Verducci was :(

I like Reynolds on MLB Network.    As far as the rest of baseball, if it ain't the Nats, I ain't watchin' it.

I watch a lot of the late night games, or at least have them on in the background but those aren't Fox games but it just dawned on me, they keep shuffling the deck in that booth but keeping the worst one-Buck

Whatever happened the Cardinals "hacking" scandal? This is all I found: http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2587689-rob-manfred-comments-on-investigation-into-cardinals-hacking-scandal
So you also saw that FanGraphs comment thread? I think waiting for the FBI is a big part of it.

Yup. The one guy tossed around a lost 1st rounder. I doubt that now. We'll see

I met Adam Wainwright Tuesday night at a restaurant in St Simon's Island, Georgia.  I was having dinner with a friend of his from high school and she introduced me.  I was pumped

The Yankees now boast the makings of what could be the most imposing bullpen in baseball, having acquired hard-throwing left-hander Aroldis Chapman from the Reds on Monday in exchange for four Minor League prospects.

Could be unless you want to pretend reliever performance is consistent

Find me a more consistent reliever than those.

The Washington Nationals had five aces in their rotation last year.

that's the point, relievers aren't consistent either on an individual level or as a group. If you think that it's definitely the best, then you're saying relievers are predictable

Mediocre relievers aren't consistent. The best relievers ARE consistent. And now they have THREE of the best relievers in the game (three of the top, what, 5-6?). I don't know what's hard to understand. Maybe their ERAs vary a little bit because 1 additional bad outing per year can make a big different in so few innings, but for the most part the top relievers in the game are shut-down guys for many years at a time.

Kimbrel has had 5 straight years with ERAs between 1.01 and 2.58
Chapman 4 straight years between 1.51 and 2.54
Jansen 5 straight years between 1.88 and 2.85
Uehara 4 straight years between 1.09 and 2.52
Papelbon 9 of 10 years beween 0.92 and 2.94

I think Betances could wear down this year because of his workload the last 2 years, but Miller and Chapman should be elite barring injury and Betances certainly should be dominant. Will be fun to watch for sure.
