the reason for the switch to ticket master just got clearer- they don't want the poors in the good seats

I would rather not have you plebeians sitting next to me. Thank you.

Good for him. I believe the Nats ran a promotion like this also. Bet the Rangers front office was pretty shocked. Bet they tweak the pitching machine next time.

Ian running out of options: https://twitter.com/ChrisCotillo/status/701817489982935041

Biggest mistake of his entire life is going to be turning down $100 million guaranteed. Sweet agent, Ian!

It looks like any offer will come after the draft pick compensation expires.

I was listening to MLB on XM last night and one of the commentators thought he'd go to Colorado, arguing that Ian "has the ability to pick up an offense and carry it on his back."  I wonder if he's ever watched Desmond play or looked at his stats.  Others have talked about how he bounced back over the second half, but if you just look at 9/1 to the end of the season, he put up .220   .298   .321, with 41 Ks and 12BBs in 126 PAs.

did you think so at the time?  Wasn't the offer before 2014 (2 years left)?

horrible mistake, but $23 million in career earnings, so it's not like he'll ever have to work again even if no other team picks him up

Well, 9/1 to the end of the season isn't the "second half" though....from July 20th to August 31st, which is a quarter of a season, Desmond hit .312/.378/.574 with 2 errors and a .986 fielding percentage. Obviously at other times he'll be extremely cold due to the strikeouts when his BABIP is low.

Anyways, I don't think Desmond is a world saver, but it is accurate that he can "carry a team for periods" in my opinion. He did it last year for 6 weeks during the worst season of his career.

i thought it was a mistake. his reason ("can't set the market this low!") was absurd. Players never believe their demise is right around the corner but passing up $100 million guaranteed to take you into your mid-30s seasons is stupid. How much could he have really improved his stock? Gotten an extra $30 million, maybe? The offer came before 2014. At that point he had 2 bad seasons and 2 good ones. I just am laughing at his agent for advising him to turn down $100 million dollars so he could try to get $140 million in 2 years. 2 years is an eternity in a baseball life, especially for a player who had barely any track record of success. just complete hubris.

He bet on himself to out-perform his great 2012 and good 2013, and he lost. He played himself.

The only thing to care about is whether he brings us a pick or not and looks like he won't. That is almost as bad for the nationals as for Desmond.

Same with Gallardo to the O's. I know this is shocking, but they found something in his physical they didn't like.

Baltimore discussions belong in the Baltimore thread in Uncensored.

Oh, you mean a different kind of Baltimore discussion. Carry on.

Looks like the Rox won't be a suitor for Desi during ST -- Reyes is on leave till his trial (April 4)... Can't see them signing him without knowing what is going on with Reyes

Well, they two recent guys they signed and then backed out on signing were Grant Balfour and Jair Jurrjens. They dodged bullets on those deals, so I'm gonna wait before criticizing them for this.
