Fire Dusty Baker!
« Topic Start: November 02, 2015, 10:27:27 PM »
Jon Heyman:

Quote
In a stunning twist, the Nationals manager job isn't completely settled, and word is, the club has reached out to Dusty Baker, and will offer him the job.

While it has been widely reported that Black was the guy, Baker is now very likely to be the one to succeed Matt Williams as Nats manager.

Nats people were said to be leaning toward Baker even over the weekend, though multiple reports suggested the job was already Black's. Baker is seen as someone who can handle superstars, so he'd fit with the Nats, who have arguably baseball's best player in Bryce Harper. Baker previously managed Barry Bonds and Sammy Sosa with much success.

The Nats were said to have been in talks with Black, but word is, nothing had ever been settled, despite the reports. The team had keen interest in Baker from the start.

Not a huge fan of this move, but I guess we'll see what happens. Maybe it is the right move for this team.

I love Dusty Baker. Preferred him over Bud Black.

Still wish we gave Martinez a chance.

If the Nats were going to take a risk on a first time manager I would have loved Martinez or Wotus.  I do have to ask, if choosing a "safe pick" why do you like Baker over Black?

Nothing evidence can back up, but I just think he'd fit better with this mix of vets/young guys and would fire them up. I didn't have anything against Black...I just wasn't too excited about him. I also think Dusty is hilarious.

Heard Nats offered Black something in range of two years and team options, and he balked. Context: Mattingly signed a 4-year deal in Miami.

What makes them think that Baker would accept this LAC bullcrap?

I am sick to my stomach.

I'm suddenly not real excited about next year.  Here we go with ANOTHER manager who is a half-step away from retirement anyway.  Dude hasn't done jack since W's first term.

That just isn't how manager contracts are designed these days, especially for a well-regarded guy like Black. Really bad move by Rizzo.

Black accepted #Nats job last week, but no idea it would pay less than $2 million over 2 years. http://usat.ly/1NnnF7w

WTF is wrong with this team?  I think Coach O'Conner with UVA's baseball team make more than this (or at least he will now).
